10 LTEs in response to Ex-Twins in the Bigs

  • How in the world can Darrell McDonald be in the bigs, let alone starting and batting second on Opening Day?! The Reds have no chance this year.

    • And sure enough, he was abused by Johan in his first at bat

    • ubelmann

Darnell McDonald was the sorriest excuse for a hitter that I've ever seen in the majors. He looked worse than Al Leiter. Maybe he's improved....??

I know I saw him in person once get totally overmatched. A Convention date, perhaps? Or maybe it was another game that I saw with DPWY and Banjo. Can't remember

Somehow he managed a single and a walk in his 11 PA, but I remember them as being highly embarrassing. How bad is Cincy's CF depth? McDonald is listed as their backup CF and I don't even think that Darnell would be starting CF for the Red Wings. Heck, I might even start Pridie and Martin over McDonald in Rochester. Thankfully for Cincy, they've got Willy Taveras and his studly career 72 OPS+ to start every day once he gets over the flu.

When I saw his name on the Cincinnati roster, my thought was, well, I suppose as a fifth outfielder he might not be so awful. I had no idea he'd be in the starting lineup.

do they have injuries in the outfield?

  • I love the McDonald discussion. Right at game time I had four calls from my boys talking about it. That and a discussion over whether Phillips should be hitting 4th.

Add to the list--Dodgers: Doug Mientkiewicz.
