Pittsburgh designates Craig Monroe for assignment.
San Diego activates Luis Rodriguez from the disabled list.
Tampa Bay activates Jason Bartlett from the disabled list.

I thought Sir Sidney was with the Royals this year?

Also, I am greatly amused that little-Rod is a major league starting SS.

    • AMR

Sid is still a Royal. Put on the DL on June 2, retro to May 30. "Right Elbow Strain."
      He's still on MLB.com's 40-man Roster.

On the Rangers, Willie Eyre was assigned to AAA (after being moved from teh 15-day to 60-day... I don't know how that works).

It's listed on espn.com transactions page for June 15: Texas Rangers--waived pitcher Sidney Ponson. There can't be two of them, can there? I guess if it doesn't have to do with the Yankees or Red Sox, ESPN can't be relied on.

        • Typical ESPN typo, I'm sure. "Texas Rangers--waived at pitcher Sidney Ponson."

        • rob

For no particularly good reason, this bothered me, so I looked into it further. According to MLB.com, Ponson was placed on the 15 day DL on June 2, 2009 by the Royals. It looks like the ESPN website may not be reliable? Some things agreed (like Mark Kotsay being activated by the BoSox on June 2) but others really didn't (like Ponson). Weird...

        • AMR

I think something got miscoded... it happened on June 15, 2008.
Texas DFA'd Ponson on 6/6/08 according to mlb.com. June 15th would have been the tenth day for a team to claim him. As no one did, and he did not accept assignment, he was waived on the 15th.

There can't be two of them, can there?

There are about two Tim Lincecum's in one Ponson. Two Ponsons might well alter the trajectory of the moon.

There are about two Tim Lincecum's in one Ponson. Two Ponsons might well alter the trajectory of the moon.

And neither Lincecum listens to Wang Chung.

Craig Monroe DFA'ed. Ponson on waivers. How long until Livan is shown the door?

    • It'd better be a double-door.

    • DK

Probably a while. The whole Met roster is being held together with string and duct tape and Livan has 5 and 2 of the only stats that matter for a pitcher *cue bombastic music*

Also, I learned today from Lavelle's entry's comments section that Livan is better than Liriano.

        • Well, I'm looking at their stat lines here, and I really can't argue with that too much right now. I don't their FIPs or league-adjustments, but Livan does look at least as effective so far, if not more so.
