Cup of CoffeeWolves lose again by 22, Kevin Love down to 17 minutes. This is the worst possible situation for the Wolves. They are driving what is left of their fan base with a tremendous stretch of terrible basketball. Their best, or second-best, player has checked out and is getting buried on the bench. I doubt that Love is in their long term plans. How's that O.J. Mayo deal looking now? Citizens Online18 Users Online WGOM Sign InLog InRetired WGOM Jokes

Joe Mauer atop the leader board. Woot!
Here, take your mind off this latest Twins series of games against the Yanks...
Don't forget this one. Looking at that top row is amazing.
For someone who's not a top-50 ballplayer, Morneau's having a pretty good season, too.
That's a big part of the frustration. Mauer and Morneau have been "balanced" by the definition of futility at the plate that is Delmon, Gomez and whoever is manning second base.
Look, I already told you that he's come up in my estimation with this season so far. Give it a rest, Boss.
Just checking to see if you are out there.
You should not mess with the Klingon, especially after he's had a couple pints of blood wine.
I do think it's somewhat fitting that the guy who's been overrated by everyone, Twins fans, media, and baseball people in general, for the previous three years is now having by far his best season ever, and is now getting somewhat overlooked because the guy who's always been better than him is playing astronomically well.
Ain't so tough, after all.
A strained adductor? Sounds made up to me.
Tape it up and play!
if only they had a leader to show them how to play the game the right way.
Careful! Hate to see Chone Figgins take a shot from FotF by accident.
There are three Twins on the Thursday birthday list:
Jack Powell (1874)
Buck Herzog (1885)
Glenn Myatt (1897)
Wally Post (1929)
Hector Lopez (1929)
Marty Springstead (1937)
Hal Haydel (1944)
Sonny Jackson (1944)
Steve Luebber (1949)
Willie Wilson (1955)
I have a Sonny Jackson baseball card, so I know he was a real ballplayer.
They were all real ballplayers. Except Marty Springstead, who was a real umpire.
For those who don't remember the ex-Twins:
Outfielder Wally Post was sold to the Twins by Cincinnati in May of 1963. He had a long and fairly successful career, but was done by the time he came to the Twins. He played 21 games for them, batting .191 with 2 homers and 6 RBIs in 47 at-bats. He was released at the end of the season, got 8 at-bats with Cleveland the next year, and then was out of baseball.
Pitcher Hal Haydel was picked in the Rule 5 draft by the Twins from San Francisco in December of 1969. Apparently they worked something out with the Giants, because he did not make his big-league debut until September of 1970. He then played with the Twins in 1971. He pitched in 35 games, all in relief, going 6-2 with 1 save in 49 innings with a 4.04 ERA. He played at AAA in 1972, but never made it back to the big leagues.
Steve Luebber pitched for the Twins from 1971-72 and again in 1976. He was 6-10 with a 4.32 ERA in 58 games for the Twins, 24 of them starts. He was in the Twins' minor league system between '72 and '76, and again in 1977. After the Twins released him, he hooked on with a few other organizations, making it back to the majors briefly in 1979 (Toronto, 1 game) and 1981 (Baltimore, 7 games).
I knew the name Luebber, but not the others
Kris Humphries dealt to Mavs in massive deal! Okay, there might be bigger fish in that deal. What I found interesting is that Jerry Stackhouse is likely going to be a free agent. I wonder which team is going to try to snap him up for a run at a title. Maybe he heads back to Dallas. I don't think Boston needs him. Or LA. Or Cleveland. Maybe Cleveland.
I didnt know Kris Humphries was still playing
is 9.1 min/g over 29 games last year "playing".
It would be more accurate to say he's still "being paid".
Deavan George (Augsburg Represent!) also in deal, to Raptors.
That's an awesome transaction though. Sounds like half of the NBA got moved around, only to end up where they knew they were going anyways.
I enjoyed this nugget from Dazzle last night, who apparently is a big fan of Brett Gardner. Dazzle thinks he is like a Twins player because he possesses the following traits:
Life in his body
Runs around
Catches the ball
Why am I not surprised Twins announcers would covet the Yankees' #9 hitter...
I heard that too. I think it was a roundabout way to slight Delmon Young
0-for-3 on those items for _elm_n
hey now. Delmon sometimes catches the ball
And there's no one who runs around more on a fly ball than Delmon.
I had the game on for about 5 minutes last night and heard Gordon ripping into Ichiro for not being a "pure hitter" like Mauer and then Dazzle agreeing and then lumping in Barry Bonds and saying, "Neither of them have ever been on a team that won anything."
Note to the morons in the booth: ripping down one of the best players of all time to promote Joe sounds silly when Joe hasn't "won anything" either
he's won the hearts of Gordo and Dazzle
Bonds won 7 MVP awards. His team won a National League pennant. He would have a World Series ring if Dusty Baker wasn't a moron.
In what dreamworld is Ichiro not a "pure hitter"...?! What kind of lunacy is that? Does anyone personify "pure hitting" more than Ichiro? Apparently to our morons in the booth, breaking a decades-old record for hits in a season is just the next best thing to being white.
hey now, it might not be his ethnicity, but rather his nationality that is the hang-up. Were he American-born of Japanese decent (like, say Kurt Suzuki or Don Wakamatsu), he could still be a pure hitter. The bias may be against the country he learned the game in (i.e. "The Japanese Game is different") vs the country his ancestors came from.
Subtle and still prejudiced, but less racist.
I'll buy this, actually. It's more in line with his statements than pure racism.
It's been a lot more fun watching Johnny Damon. On every fly ball to left, he has looked like a drunken sailor on shore leave chasing the ball. Didn't he overrun a ball in the May series at NY ?
What are the trade rumors surrounding the Twins this month? Are we going for another reliever? Who are we looking to possibly let go?
I thought I heard a Zobrist for Young + Tolbert + Henn + 1 bag of bats rumor...
I'll be contacted the DEA, stat, because obviously, there's a lot of crack being smoked in Eastern Missouri.
bro-in-law is a DEA agent; he'll vouch for me.
*goes to double-check medication instructions*
You've got the whole Breaking Bad thing going on.
bro-in-law is a DEA agent
I've met Rhu_Ru so I can confirm that he is not Walter White.
So you think the Nats'll grab Henn and Tolbert off waivers, only to package them with D'MeatTree to get Zobrist? Why? Is Carlos Pena hurt?
no no no -- MICHAEL Young
Calling UncleWalt: send me an email, dude.
sbg (at) your domain name?
yep.
I think I may join ya'll today instead of waiting to watch the game at home
Here's another fine Gomez quote, in regards to robbing Rodriguez of a HR on Tuesday night:
I love that little goofypants.

Nice pics! These reports from outdoor baseball games have me jonesing for going to a ballpark. Maybe a Saints game...
Yeah I can't wait to see the Twins outdoors in MSP. Camden had to to in the past. I like watching the Nats but can't wait for the Twins to be outside.
Verducci with a nice write up about Earl Weaver.
Joel Hanrahan, a member of the Pirates, gets the win today for the Nationals.
Funny...and even funnier that his win came at the hands of a new division rival.
In one of my fantasy leagues, I had Hanrahan at that point because he was a closer. I suppose I probably don't get that win anymore, and it's forever lost in the ether. Sigh.
