SBG Convention: RESCHEDULED

It appears that the 15th is a better day for most and the situation in Winona is grave, so I'm probably out for the 1st, too. So, I have decided to move the Convention to the 15th. Please indicate here whether you can make it.

Date: August 15th
Time: 12:00 noon to 5:00 PM
Place: Minnehaha Park, Minneapolis

What: Picnic, followed by game at the Metrodome.

Cost: $5, $10 for a family

  • d'oh! i'm out then. that's too bad, it sounds like it would have been fun. i hope all goes well for your family though.

Since the convention is not this weekend, I will instead be taking the family to Day Out with Thomas in Lakeville. Thomas the Tank Engine, that is.

I will not be able to enjoy the outing on the 15th, unfortunately.

  • That's fine by me. I think you should consider switching to a potluck. You and Lucy have too much on your plate to worry about feeding the nation at a convention. Call in the cavalry!

  • I will definitely be at the picnic. Not sure about the game yet. Looks like I might have to go up to Two Harbors on that Sunday.

  • Sheenie and I will join you at the Falls, but will have to skip the game that evening.

  • If I get into this movie, that'll be the first day of shooting (unless it gets pushed back for more money, but that never happens in showbiz!!1!11). So...I don't expect to be there. Someday.

  • I was excited to see the date changed, but unfortunately the 15th does not work for me either. I will be golfing in a tourney up in Ottertail, then beginning my vacation there as well.

    Like spookymilk says... someday.

  • I have not one but two weddings that day, so no Convention for me. Ditto on the...someday.

    • Here's a better idea: you bail on each wedding, placing the blame on the other wedding. Then you go to the convention instead!

  • The 15th is far more palatable for me. I'll try and stop by to snack and chat. Don't think I'll be able to make the ballgame though.

For all you "somedays" that are in the area, I intend to have more informal get togethers going forward. I had one in March, but with the family situation being what it has been, I just haven't been able to schedule things. There will be opportunities, though.

  • I plan on joining for the picnic and the game. Thanks for convening once again!

  • I'm ... actually a maybe! Will have to check things out with all of the calendars floating around here.

  • Looks like I'm out. We're fly back from Seattle into Chicago the night before, and until we have high-speed rail, that's gonna be quite a hike for one day.

  • I should be able to make it, as far as I know right now. Looking forward to it!

  • I will unfortunately still not be able to attend.

  • Moss sends his regrets.

  • Sorry to hear that the news from Winona is not good.

It has been a wild day down there. Wife called in, again... not expected to make it through the day. She was with him last night and he was alert and he was doting on Miss SBG and playing with her. We were so glad that he was able to spend some time with her.

This morning, he was unresponsive and struggling for every breath. The nursing home brought in cart of things for my wife so that she wouldn't have to leave and could be with him on this, the presumptive last day of his life. Some time later, he motioned to the mask on his face and my wife discerned that he wanted to say something. It was something that he was responsive at all, but what he said was shocking: I'm hungry. So, they brought in a ham and cheese sandwich and he ate the whole thing. And then he was smiling and Miss SBG was sitting by him and he was making funny faces at her. And he started to talk again. Amazing. Simply amazing.

My wife related all of this to me and after our discussion, we both started to laugh. What was so funny? I don't know. I suppose that it's the fact that they've called us in four times. I guess it's that she and one of his friends and his brother all thought that this was really it -- he looked terrible and it seemed like he was going to leave us. And then, all of a sudden, he's eating a ham and cheese sandwich.

      The man is TOUGH!

  • I am going to try to make it to both that day. I need to mull it over for a day or two and make sure we haven't already planned anything, though.
