Jeremy (yes, an actual Jeremy) Sowers 6-9, 4.78 ERA, 5.72 xFIP, 107.1 IP, 44 K, 43 BB
Carl Pavano 12-11, 4.92 ERA, 4.17 xFIP, 170 IP, 123 K, 34 BB
Tonight, Carl Pavano looks to make the Indians pay as he faces off with Jeremy Sowers who, with a 44-43 K-BB rate, is more than likely a whipping boy on Indians blogs much like our own.
If the Twins were to go 19-0 for the rest of the season, they'd still need the Tigers to lose 6 of their last 20. Honestly, the way the Tigers have been playing, I wouldn't bet on it. So, yeah, this is over. But, since I have nothing better to do and I paid for the MLB.tv Premium Package, I'm unlikely to miss any remaining games unless I have to.
So what else is going on? The Patriot-Bills game has started, so hey, something semi-meaningful is going on out there. Perhaps we can talk about the Foot and Ball Guys league and the impact of the game on our little fantasy thing. Perhaps we can talk about beer or women or something. It's a long offseason...you might as well hang out for a couple more weeks, eh?

Nitpick: if the Twins end 19-0, the Tigers must lose a minimum of seven games because of the seven head-to-head games. So yeah, that's basically the only chance the Twins have.
Sean, don't be a dick. (That's my way of saying, "Crap, you're right")
The Tigers also just got swept by the Royals. They are completely capable of a collapse, especially while playing teams trailing them in the vast majority of their remaining games.
Does anyone else think the Patriots should go back to those uni's permanently?
yes
Does anyone else think the refs should never, ever wear those uni's again?
Throwback uniforms result in the refs being sponsored by Little Caesars. Pizza! Pizza!
I LOL'ed for real when I read that.
I am really digging those throwback ref's uni's
Yeah! Schobel! Woohoo! Um, it's kind of weird cheering for IDPs.
With Mr. Watts having Philip Rivers yet to go, there is a high probability of that game going down to the wire. (for the record, Walt has a 32 point lead, but only one defensive guy left while DW has Rivers and Gostkowski).
DW has Owens too. I don't have much hope.
If it makes you feel any better, I have a mere 2 point lead and Spooky has Randy Moss and Lee Evans. And I am all done.
Just about every player of mine underperformed Yahoo's predictions. Did you find the same?
Actually, I had a lot of guys overerform. McNabb getting hurt and my WR's being absolutely terrible were my demise. That, and Spooky has Romo.
I'm really happy I sniped Anthony Gonzalez from yicket at the draft, allowing him to pick T-Gon. My Gonzalez is out 2-6 weeks after 10 minutes of work. Yay!
through experience, i've found the yahoo is always very optimistic on their predictions. except i'm sure they didn't have A f'n P for 37 frickin' points... (love the guy, but really, he killed me this week; don't want to play him again any time soon so i don't have to cheer and curse each time he scores).
I got 60% of the projected points. My team laid an egg as a whole. Or I just suck at fantasy football. Could be either.
Yeah, Moss/Evans are going to put this away soon, I imagine.
In my main, hardcore league, I was playing my designated rival, and got a total of five points from Andre Johnson, Dallas Clark and my kicker. Everyone else was fine or better, but that was enough to lose.
Here's to hoping both Moss and Evans are forced to end their day early.
In this league, I had one player score a TD. One.
Ha! Schobel just scored a touchdown.
Do you have Schobel? In my hardcore league, the guy who has him is so far behind that Schobel would need about three more touchdowns. An awesome, if wasted, week.
Yeah. At 12 points, he's only behind my QB this week. FF is so strange.
I had Romo in my league. But I benched him for Aaron Rogers :(
don't ask me why, but i benched addai for bush (again, don't ask me why).
I'd desperately trying not to, Joe. Desperately.
I am not going to win. My team kind of sucks
If the Twins go 19-0, doesn't that make them Super Bowl Champs?
Favre to Mauer, touchdown. AP immediately follows with a homer. Would the world implode?
Cheaptoy, I brewed today, and have a beginners question (in other words something I haven't thought about in a long time) what happens when you don't add irish moss to your boil?
Nothing will happen flavor-wise. There's just a higher likelihood you'll end up with some chill haze. Once I get that Rye Amber out to you (hopefully in the next couple days), you'll see an excellent example of it.
hey! a brewing question I could have answered, correctly!
meat: patience, grasshopper.
patience, grasshopper.
Speaking of, I took this pic today.
wow, that's.... large.
fixed.

So, just some extra protein laying around... I remember now how much I hate brewing with new equipment. My new boil pot is not nearly as thick, but the new fermentors came with rubber gaskets around the major seal.
Yep, and that only sucks for commercial brewers.
I'm hoping I can keep my mash tun forever. I don't want to have to dial in calculations again and have a couple batches where my efficiency sucks, so I hear you on that point.
Speaking of mash (sort of) have you ever over done the temp on specialty grain (I hit 168 with some crystal and special roast)? If so, did it produce the burnt / carmel flavor that I'm sure mine will produce?
I've only ever just thrown my specialty grains in on my regular mash, so I'm not sure. I should try a batch where I do my base malt as a mash, and steep some specialties. That might be fun, and be like old times.
Given the Tiggers' recent performance, I don't think it is crazy to expect them to go around 10-10 the rest of the way. So that would only require the Twins to go 15-4!!!!111one111!!
/straw-grasping
Right; that's an even better way of making the point. The numbers are pretty brutal. It's not unprecedented, but when you have to say "it's not unprecedented," then it's probably not going to happen.
Justin Huber injured in BP?? Good grief.
*G'tool rearranges his Sobakawa pillow*
"Ah, we're gonna take each day at a time."
Re: feed the pig ads. Am turning my volume entirely down until I think these ads are over.
*Please stop*
bodley, yer a frickin' moron.
(this might be better in the cup of coffee, but i saw it as i was loading up my mlb.tv, so whatever).
Bashing fools talking that kind of nonsense works anywhere at the WGOM.
It's churlish here!
Ack - the W. just left a spread from the New Haven Register on my desk.
No. 2 is No. 1.
Sponsored by Partyka Chevrolet-Mazda. "No appointment necessary!"
I almost mentioned it in the writeup, but given my own rage at the headline, I decided against it.
Awesome. Just. Awesome.
Slurp, slurp.
So, the "value" part would be measured by...Runs Created? (Mauer leads the league; Jetes is 10th)...VORP? (Mauer leads the league; Jetes is a very distant second)...BA? OBP? SLG? (Mauer, Mauer, Mauer)...
I thought you were talking about me for a second. If the shoe fits....
ha!
Does the span strikeout = a delmon walk?
Hoo-hah me boyos!
Hoo-hah!
Now, I'll trade this "Lilly! Lilly!!" commercial for the pigs any day, NBB!
True, dat.
Worst ads: Summit Pale Ale ["I'll say 'yes' (heh heh)"]
Tollerable ad: "I'm just here for your wi-fi." "Oh, crabby pants!"
So far I'm not too keen on Dirty Harry as the DH
Well, that catch by Moss seals you, cheaptoy, unless one of my guys fumbles or something. Don't fumble, guys.
underground kingz (zack?) just finished me off. sssssshhhhazbot.
With AP on the squad, Zack might not be losing many games this year.
And I'm already racked with guilt about it. The robot did the draft for me, so if I keep winning I'll feel like I didn't do anything about it! :(
But at the same time, my team in my $50 league is pretty much horseshit because it was a keeper league and there was not a lot of good players available soooo... at least I have one team that's good.
If you win and find a six pack of beer in your hands, you'll feel less bad.
The best GM in all of sports?

Well, you still have Merriman, too. If he has a monstrous game and Zack's remaining guys take it easy...
...uh, you've got a chance like the Twins have a chance at the division, I guess.
would you believe he was a waiver wire pick (i didn't realize until about halfway through the draft that yahoo didn't bother to rank the individual defensive players)?
Oh, for silly. Yeah, Yahoo is fast becoming one of the last sites that doesn't attempt to rank them.
Come on guys, fumble like six times each. You know you want to.
Yahoo's updates are amazingly fast. I've always used Fanball, which has gone downhill the past five years or so.
I think we only get the gametracker for the first week unless we pay for it...unless they've changed their rules. It really is nice. My main league is on CBSsports.com, and the gametracker is similarly awesome.
That's ok. The Stattracker really slows down my machine. Just the Matchup section is faster than Fanball.
Tolbert got a hit??
Toldert got to start?
The latter doesn't surprise me nearly as much as the former.
On the Grill.
Salmon Teriyaki burgers w/ Wasabi mayonnaise. Mini-portabella mushrooms sauteed in Greek olive oil and Turkish pepper. Small red potatoes boiled, then casinoed with butter and gorgonzola cheese, a touch of Old Bay.
When you say salmon burger, what exactly do you mean?
From the meat counter at Whole Foods. I think salmon reconstructed in to a burger-like form, with chives and some binding ingredient. Not fatty, it cooks dry. But surprisingly good.
I see, we have some fresh salmon to deal with in the next day or two, just taking stock of my options.
No law against grilled salmon sammiches.
No law at all, in fact I have a small plank of cedar laying around here somewhere that should be good for grilling.
Best salmon I ever had was from a stove-top smoker I got from a duck-hunting buddy.
It's about an 8x13 pan with a slidable lid. Beneath you place a liberal pinch of shredded wood (Cherry, Alder, Hickory). Place the fish/meat/duck on a grill above the pan, and close 'er up. 10 minutes of smoke, and then move to your grill. You can do with fish/chicken/pork.
FTW?
I'm going to pound thin a couple of pork sirloin chops to schnitzel, with sides of sauteed carrots and snow peas. SN Kellerweis to quaff.
Omarha business trip special: cream of potato soup & a diet Pepsi. complimentary Bailey's on the rocks. Mr. Excitement
that's within spitting distance of a White Russian, there Rhu_Ru. You plan on peeing on the hotel rug?
I know so little about alkoholik drinks that it's a wonder I've found one I like
do you like sweet? You might enjoy trying a Lindeman's. Say, this one. Sweet, but not toooo sweet. Fruity. Interesting.
You'll need some of these. ;)

The White Russian is famous among my friends as being my favorite drink, and when that movie came out, I had long hair. There were comparisons, yesiree.
I have many memories of winding down a "stressful" day of classes with a couple, two, three white russians. No better way to use up that cheap ass vodka.
heh, i've noticed that cheap vodka only curdles the milk....
Milk? In a white russian?
We went through tons of Silver Wolf Vodka with nary a curdle. Then again, we might just have been a bit drunk and didn't notice.
well, cream, at least. it's happened to me once or twice (underage idiot i was, i drank it anyway... well, i tried to at least).
Boom! (although the regular stuff, not that flavored crap)

Of course, that was before I spent three awful weeks dealing with the people who run one of the plants that makes that stuff. I'll never drink it again.
wait, coffee liquour? uh, no thanks.
actually, this one is one of my favorites
Coom-dog talking 'bout how hard it is to hit off Sowers herky-jerky delivery. Funny stuff when you consider that he's and expert in not being able to hit.
mmm, love those one-out bunts.
Thank you, Jeremy.
Punto walks??
Did Gordo just tout "Carlos Santana" for player of the year? In what, Guitar Hero??
Supernatural.
The Crow.

Dino with the leather, I love that guy.
We got a strike moaner here, tonite. Nice.
Cuddles isn't a natural first baseman.
Do my ears deceive me? Dick 'n Bert giving some love to joe mauer?
JM == GABB
DJINAG@BB
Okay...I'm finally going to admit I have no idea what any of these abbreviations mean. I must have called in sick the day it started.
Good At BaseBall is about all you need to get you started, Beau.
well, that one happens to be Derek Jeter Is Not As Good At BaseBall
And hey, I figured it out after Brian's hint! Go me!
I was actually thinking about changing my FBG team name to AMRIGAFFB
Gordo: "Brendan Harris would be next."
Me: you expecting the double play, Gordo?
Moss is all up in this thing, cheaptoy. You need me to fumble at least four times now.
I think you fantasy guys need your own room. Like at the Ramada.
yer just jealous.
Honestly? Um, no. :P
Apparently, my wife took it as a point of pride among her friends that I didn't do FFB. So now she's really ticked at me, but realizes that she has no right to be. I've had to promise spending no money on it (why would I?). This is only my second time playing it, and the first time was 5 years ago, and I apparently never told her about that.
Secrets
I think Moss is gonna score more today than all of my receivers will combined for the rest of the year.
Zen.
Ok, I'm outahere. Bring 'em back.
done.
Someone a little more dedicated to his team's pennant run would be posting non-Milanos about now. Oh well
cc to the brewers here, anyone have a good english bitter recipe handy?
That's a Vegan Stout, not an English Bitter.
*guffaw*
***
you're a
hamMorningStar farms chick'n nugget. But of course, check yer email.
Looks good.
If I remember, it tasted pretty much exactly like you'd expect an English Bitter to taste. Not too strong, but enough to keep you interested until the glass is empty.
Boo Mr. Brantley
ready! aim! span...?
Span had him beat by like 10 feet, and Toldert almost screwed up the tag.
haven't seen a replay yet, but he might have even been safe. i think the ump called him out by virtue of the throw beating him by so much...
If Crow were Jeter, it would be an international incident. From what I saw, looked like he got Crow to maybe slide into the glove.
If Crow were Shin-Soo Choo, it would be an international incident...
I was just thinking that if Shin-Soo Choo were a Yanqui, he'd be in MVP discussions.
He has a 1.036 OPS in New Yanqui Stadium.
Choo isn't in the MVP discussion?
His agent is pushing him...

It says I Choo-Choo-Choose you, and there's a picture of a train.
Yeah...it's a good gag...
If you look close enough you can see the exact moment his heart breaks.
Poor Ralph.

Sleep! That's where I'm a viking!
Gotta go.
Aim careful.
Twins' hitters are building momentum. I think they may take the lead back by about the fouth inning of the next game.
Aubrey Huff is your douchebag of the day.
I just saw a defensive back make a perfect form tackle. Amazing.
Above HS level?!
No joke!
Tolbert is the new Crede.
Gomez is fast. I know that we all know this. But, damn, he's fast.
Joe really isn't a good hitter,Sowers is just a shitty pitcher.Use mine.

That inning was fun, let's do that again.
Was that sarcasm, cause ESPN shows zero for the Twins? :(
Sarcasm's about all the discerning Twins fan has to wear about now.
We've also got "There's always next year!"
And that's not sarcasm, how?
Well ok, for a Twins fan it is. If we were Cubs fans, it'd be a way of life.
Don't pile on, meat. Dude lives in 'sconi.
Its true. I'm surrounded by fairweather fans.
Actually, I've got a Viking's Bandwagon EZ pass in my wallet. I'm well-versed in fairweather.
Wow. I don't know if anyone else is watching football right now, but I really feel for FTLT at the moment. That was about the stupidest thing I've ever seen.
I'm sure that the Jameson will sooth his pain.
He's gonna need it. I mean, really, the kick went to the end zone, and if you take it out, you're gonna have 11 guys doing everything they can to get it loose. It's they're only hope.
That was a stupid bunch of stupid, for sure.
It really makes that point Moss made in the CoC ring true.
Did you just say coc(k) ring?
heh, yeah.
I think that the sad thing about all of the .400 hype is that Joe Mauer is hitting .371 right now and that somehow doesn't just amaze and astound people.
Joe Mauer is hitting .371!!
He's 7 hits away from matching his hit total from last year. Only 8 people in the Retrosheet era have done hit better than .371. If he could just keep this up, it'd be a season for the ages. Even if he doesn't keep this up, it's probably a season for the ages.
It's really too bad he couldn't have also have passed Sam Rice's franchise All-Time Hits Record, because that would seal it.
Now seven away from Brunansky's total though!
well, THAT should do it!
Ubes, maybe I'm not math smart enough, but if Joe gets only 7 more hits this season and matches last season with -100 PA, wouldn't that qualify as "a season for the ages"?
Like I said, even if he doesn't keep this up, it's probably a season for the ages.
Bert: {Crain's} strong from the waist down....
Me: Heh, the punch lines wright themselves.
I shudder to think what he'd say if Crain were a little stiff after the game.
Write or wrong...
I may have had a bit to drink....
Hey, painter! :)
If there's anything in the world that will make me punch kittens, its NFL broadcasting crews talking about how far a kicker kicked in warmups.
is that like Delmon driving the ball in batting practice?
I think that is a highly accurate comparison.
effing tigers win in the 10th...
I think I'm entering "at least its not the White Sox" mode.
doesn't mean the Sox don't pass Twins soon at this rate
Shut the face! They were getting killed.
Sowers got screwed.
Out-cab to lead off the 8th, hurumph. I would have more faith in the Twins to overcome if someone could get on base in front of Mauer.
Well if you're going to construct a lineup, you have to have a scrappy low-OBP infielder in the 2 hole.
In my dream world the Twins sign Chone Figgins, who I loathe, because at least then when Gardenhire stuffed a middle infielder into the 2 hole, he'd get on base. And I hate Figgins.
Let's not talk so much about stuffing anything in the 2 hole.
Runners on 1st and 2nd, no outs = Zero runs.
Sad day.
You don't run on joe.
Bring on neck tattoo.
I'm reachin' here...
Way to prove me wrong, 0-cab.
Mauer will likely end the night 3-3, not too shabby.
1st and 2nd and no outs...how do they not do it this time?
Hmm, strikeout and then DP would be my bet.
yea of little faith. /heh.
There was a strikeout!
I listened to most of this game on the radio.
UGH is what I say..except for Mauer
Cuddyer? Clutch? *boggle*
CUDDLES!
LIFE!
CCCUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDDDDDDDYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!111!!!!!!!!uno!!!!!!

Does this mean you <3 Cuddy?
I balls the Wilson girls. (In the late '70's...)
tolbert is 2 fer.... cats and dogs living together.
A revelation?
1st and 3rd and one out...how are they not going to do it this time? *crosses fingers*
thanks for the setup rhu_ru ;)
Twins baseball!
Go ahead run on a wild pitch! TWINS BASEBALL!!!!!!111111!!!!!!11!!
Twins baseball!
It might be me, but I think Gordo and Dazz might have located the kind bud tonight.
That's what I'm talking about!
THE DUDE ABIDES!!!!!
TWAYN!, I mean, DUDE!
He hit that ball kind of far
Dude!
DUDE!
KUUUUUBBBBEBEEEEESSSSSS!!!!!!!!one!!!!!!!!11111!!!!uno!!!!!!!1111!!!!ichi!!!!!!

THE TWINS ARE GOING TO WIN THE DIVISION!
THE TWINS ARE GOING TO WIN THE PENNANT!
THE TWINS ARE GOING TO WIN THE WORLD SERIES!
BOZO!
Not a good night for Perez.
DUUUUUUDE!!!
I think it's fair to say that Nick would have been safe w/o the dive.
In the meantime, bS is preparing a tasty low-fat, high protein meal for his family. Stoopid edjucated gui...
I had one of those tonight. Grilled chicken and a romaine/tomato salad with vinegar and olive oil dressing. Plus I got in a five mile bike ride. I'm telling you, getting laid off was the healthiest thing that's happened to me in years.
Well done, friend. I mean that. We should do lunch again.
sadlyhappily, the Mrs. chose to make dinner before I got home. So I had to freeze the pork chops that were in the fridge, begging to be cooked.red sauce and whole wheat spaghetti tonight. High-carb, low-protein. But still tasty.
I dunno. Me, you and Twayn? We'd still have a good time. Guaranteed.
Sad. Two outs and OrCa up; Joe misses out on another shot at hit #4.
How was punto safe?
Slow tag. Good call by blue
So, this is a pretty happy turn of events. Treading water with the Tigers is less fortunate, but going a full game up on CWS is nice...and pennant or not, being able to see this kind of game is awesome anyway. This has been "Perspectives: with Kelly Wells."
So Spooky, if you were to complain to the SAG, would they make the other Kelly Wells change her professional moniker?
Because she's in porn and I'm not, in all likelihood, they'd side with me (also, it's my real name, and it's just a stage name for her). But since we're in such different worlds, SAG might not even get in the way. If there's a flap, I don't know what I'll do. I'm a fan of my name, but I'd also be willing to go by "Allen Kelly" or "Kelly Allen" or "Allen Wells" just to avoid problems.
dude, your identity is showing!
And (pending) four straight Mondays.
I know, I know...I don't believe in karma, and yet here we are on the brink.
Baserunner, check.
Here we go again!
jesus christo.
If Joe blows this one......
Ah, what the heck, it's just a game.
It's just a fuckin' game...
Yikes, that was close. Way to go fellas.
i'll take it.
That was entirely too long, but no runs. Good enough. Now I'm much more annoyed at the Tigers for coming back, though.
I'm more annoyed at the Blue Jays for giving away the game with two errors in the final two innings, both leading to runs.
Ugh, it was on errors? Yeah, it's on the Blue Jays, then. Boo.
GOSNO!
.500!
again?!?
Oy.
I said the Twins would win 83 before the year and have been secure in their spot all along since we've hovered around there, but the Twins have never been four games up this year, so it's hard to fathom.
.500. Of course.
Suddenly realized I was watching the Raiders and tuned in just in time to see Cuddy go long. We're still in it!
Twins win!
Now, let's go pound some Budweisers.
Shitfuck!
Yay Twins!
just caught the highlights , oh my Kubel destroyed that baseball. Cuddyer also got 'all of it' with that bomb to center.
Cuddy with 100 HR's, 1 behind Corey Koskie on the teams all time HR list. Cuddyer has 410 RBI in his career, passing Randy Bush and Larry Hisle at 409, and is closing in on being in the Top 15 RBI men in Twins history (I just did a quick scan on the number at b-r. Since the combine both Washington and Minnesota stats, it gets hard to make a list, especially for those who played in both locations)
