The game is going to be on MLBN for anyone who gets that. Coverage starts in about nine minutes.
Remember last year when Freddy Garcia pitched the make-up game for the Tigers against the Sox? Yeah, me neither.
I do. It was like his second start all season after coming back from his injury. It was Leyland throwing in the frigging towel.
You must be remembering an entirely different game than me, because I remember all hands being on deck at the end of that game, and I remember Jim Leyland doing everything he could in the 9th to try to win that game and end the season.
I just felt that throwing Garcia in that situation was not the Tigers best option for a starting pitcher. If I recall, they had made the decision to shut down one or two starters. I thought Garcia was sort of a sacrificial lamb. But you are right, when it came down to nut cutting time, Leyland pulled out all the stops.
I do too, I was in Chicago for a actuarial exam-prep course. For lunch, I walked around downtown listening to my radio on headphones, but the game was rain delayed. Every break we had that afternoon, I ran to the far end of the hotel hallway so I could pick up a smidgen of the AM signal.
off for more gurls socker. Have fun, kids.
this is the one time i'll let myself feel anything but hatred and rage to hear hawk yell, "you can put it on the booooooaaaaarrrrrrrrrrd, yyyyyes!"
I was thinking that same thing...
I just got home, turned on CSN and was thinking along the same lines. Then my better judgment took over and I am still going to turn the volume down.
Where's the game? Not started yet?
game delayed for about 15 minutes...
That's a 5-run penalty, right?
Anybody know what time gates will open at the Dome tomorrow?
Scotty Pods for MVP!
What the hell? I must be under blackout for this one.
Quentin!!!
"You can put it on the booooooaaaaarrrrrrrrrrd, yyyyyes! Yyyyyyes!"
That's almost kind of fun!
It was kinda fun, wasn't it?
You can put it on the boooooooooooard...YES!
Car.Los QUENTIN!
Quentinnnnn! YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOAAAAAAAAAAAARD
I hope Beckham and A.J. hit back-to-back homers at some point.
Figaro Figaro - I am the factotum of the City! Heh.
Hahaha the double steal by Ozzie! Thanks, buddy!
Figaro out. I think I'll mix me a Futini.
Figaro out after retiring just four batters.
Pronto prontissimo son come il fulmine:
sono il factotum della città.
That bit didn't last long, did it?
1.1 innings for Figaro. That can't be good for the Tigers.
They should have started Verlander tonite.
Also, Scotty Pods for MVP!
He might still make it into today's game..
Another pitching change. I smell desperation in Detroit.
Ho Lee Crap. This is not the 7th inning. Who brings in a LOOGY for one batter in the 2nd inning?
Jim Leyland, apparently.
In his defense, he has approximately 10 more pitchers available out of the bullpen if he needs them.
So that actually happened? I'm following via GameCast and figured ESPN got it wrong when they said Ni came in. Wow.
That is almost as weird as pinch hitting Neverhit for Huff.
I've gotta go wash the kids, but I can't pull myself away from Gameday.
You are fucking KIDDING ME! Two mid inning pitching changes in the second inning. And the score is 2-0!
Panic! Run for your lives!
Just got back from buying birthday beer to see a two-run lead already. Awesome. I'm enjoying one of these:
Wife picked up a six pack for me this afternoon. I tapped four of them at the end of the game. Couldn't help it.
This is the first one I've ever had. Skim wanted to carry something in from the car, and it was the beer, which she naturally dropped. It didn't break, amazingly, but it attacked me when I cracked it open.
I had Schell's Firebrick.
Ah. I've had that. Good stuff, if it's what I'm remembering.
Arrogant Bastard is a solid beer to be sure.
I heard that for a long time, and figured it was high time I splurged. It's my birthday, and my wife wasn't around to stop me. That's a perfect situation right there.
Thank you for patronizing my home town brewery!
I haven't had any since early summer, been trying too many of the other things that people mention here.
You're welcome, Escondido. It's a nice, strong, hoppy beer with a hilarious definition of itself on the label.
I was referring to SBG and Schell's Firebrick.
Ah. I was surprised to see you were from Escondido, and now I know why.
Superb choice. If you want to destroy your pallette, I also highly recommend the Ruination IPA. I actually like it more than the AB, enough so that I bought a bright yellow bike jersey with the gargoyle on it.
That was there too, so I'll ruin myself the next time I get the chance.
and the Double Bastard. If you are Man Enough.
but seriously, the things from Stone to try really are the Vertical Epics (specialty brews that have come out on Cupcake Days -- 06/06/06, 07/07/07, etc.). And the Imperial Stout and the smoked porter are impressive. I like the Bastards just fine, but as cheaptoy says, they are palate wreckers.
re: Cupcake Days for those who don't recall or were not there when.
Not to get to ahead of ourselves here, but they might need to bring champagne to the dome tomorrow. How sweet would it be to win the division in the final game of the dome?
The Lord (potentially) works in mysterious ways.
I'm still not a big fan of Hawk's "He gone!" call, but I'll take it for the next two days...
MLBN is treating those of us in blackout land to a recap of the 2006 Series, apparently.
What dish/cable service are you on? You might get CSN.
Charter, unfortunately. Nothing on WGN or MLBN.
I'm torn. Do I watch the Tiger feed because Hawk isn't on it, or do I watch the White Sox feed, because Hawk is on it?
White Sox feed, dude.
Yeah. I've gotta, don't I?
I'm listening to the Tigers guys cause I can't get anything else, but if I could get Ed Farmer and Steve Stone for this one, I would. And I hate Ed Farmer.
FWIW, I still find him annoying, even though I'm rooting for the Sox. His complaining about the umpires started in the first inning.
On The GrillIn the Dutch Oven.1.5 lb chuck roast browned in Le Creuset dutch oven, then cooked slowly in 1/2 veg. stock , dash of Pickapeppa, and 1/2 of last bottle of Harpoon Summer Beer, in the oven. Added potatoes, carrots, onions after an hour. Made gravy with juices and served with mature Côtes du Rhône. Great with Twin victory.
In-N-Out, double-double, animal style, fries, pink lemonade/7-Up mix, vanilla-chocolate shake. Mmmmmm.
WHITE SOX BASEBALL!!!
Ordonez!
Oh man, how about that Tigers outfield defense.
From the Tigers thread on 2+2:
I take it this poster wasn't terribly happy about that play.
SF101 is a Tigers fan now?
Hey guys!
Man today's game was rockin, just got home. We got scalped upper GA tickets for tomorrow but I don't think I can go...nephew's birthday party at 12:30. Maybe they'll allow us to watch it on TV. Or maybe I'll get H1N1 tonight
Or maybe I'll get H1N1 tonight
A guy can dream...
palehose radio guys telling the official scorer to get off their lawn...
I just can't bring myself to listen to Hawk. He's SO BAD, and the Tigers announcers, apart from a little bit too much dead airtime are really pretty good.
Frankly, I think dead air time is fine during a baseball game. 99% of the time, most announcers would just spout off gibberish anyway.
They haven't made me want to kill myself tonight, but maybe that's because (for once) we're on the same side.
They're better when the Sox are winning too. If the Sox fall behind, that's when all the whining starts.
i can't stands teh hawk either, but i don't have a choice. in bitch sox land, and mlb.tv has it blacked out. oh well, what the hell.
Just you guys wait until I'm rich and powerful and get the rights to broadcast all sporting events with only the sound from the stadium/arena/park.
what about the field?
Yeah, that one too. Any other /'s I missed?
And Detroit is on to pitcher #4. Good stuff.
Leyland managing like there's no tomorrow. He better hope Verlander has some gas after his 130 pitch outing 4 days ago.
I think Verlander would be ready to pitch an inning or two tonight.
Stay classy, Detroilet bullpen!
Looks like it hit the bill of his helmet. I guess if you're gonna get hit in the head, that's the place to do it.
i think laird was getting ready to hold him back more than he was checking on him.
noice!
4-0. W00t!
Hit 'em where they ain't!!!
My Lawd, White Sox. My love for you is but temporary, but very strong.
So if the Twins were in the same situation as the Tigers are now, how would the crowd prefer Gardenhire manage the game -- like Leyland is managing now or some other way?
I'd prefer less micromanaging of the bullpen. Having used all these relievers might come back to bite them in the ass tomorrow or in a possible game 163. It's putting a lot of weight on Verlander to pitch a lot of innings tomorrow for sure.
The pitching thing is weird but let's face it, Tigers doing nothing at the plate.
Not a lot you can do about that if you're the manager though. You almost have to cut your losses at this point if you're Detroit.
5 steals for the Sox? I thought Laird was supposed to be good or something.
No faith in Lillebridgerooney
Laird with warning track power!
Wow, Neverhitt with the long foul.
That was a monster blast for sure.
After 5, 4-0 good guys.
I sigh everytime I think thoughts like that.
Hungry One, it has to be weird to be cheering alongside your homies today, right?
how do you mean? my wife? nah, she hates he sox too ;)
Land o' Goshen, five in the books and the Tigers with just 3 hits and down by 4? I hope the Sox are better at holding a 4 run lead than we were today.
Freddy is pitching like he never had a period of decline.
I hate it when Cabrera bats with runners on.
Leaving the Dome today there were spontaneous cheers of "Let's go White Sox!" I bet that's never happened before. That game about gave me a heart attack. Go Sox!
Quentin hits a fly ball that would have been a HR in almost any other stadium.
It is a lot more enjoyable to listen to the Hawk when you want the White Sox to win.
Still not really enjoyable though, in my most honest and humble opinion.
My sister's family are all Rockies fans, so I'm going to have to follow that game after this one. I'll admit, I would love to see them win tonight and tomorrow.
Another inning down. Freddy is making the Tigers pay!
Tigers running out of outs!
I JUST WOKE UP FROM A VERY SATISFYING NAP
IS THIS SCORE FOR REAL OR AM I STILL DREAMING?
You're still asleep. The Twins were eliminated from the playoffs 3 days ago.
IBB to Pods after the steal. Come on Beckham!
c'mon dagger time!!!!
Apparently, Beckham is only a Twins killer.
D'oh
I can't believe Garcia is still pitching.
How often do you see a guy make a nice play to end an inning, and then get a double when he's Adam Everett? Yeah, me neither.
Okay, Freddy. Get real. Or Ozzie. Whoever.
T-Pain(ya) to the rescue.
I'm in love with a pitcherrrrrrrrrr
Out loud laughing...
Hehe. When will I ever get to use that one again?
Poseidon...look at me
Why can't anything be freaking easy!!??!
Wow. Ozzie was out there for a long time before making that change. I was scared for a second that he would actually leave Garcia in just to screw over the Twins.
Polanco's OBP is only .334? It seems like it's .450
He doesn't really walk much.
The man can hit, though.
Dear White Sox, do not blow this.
Holy shit. That was scary.
That's pretty sweet watching Miguel Cabrera GIDP in that situation.
The double play is such a beautiful thing. Go sox!
YES!!!
Polanco's OBP against the Twins is .408 this year. I wasn't too far off
Now that seems accurate. And still, I'm a touch surprised it's not higher.
You know, lead off walks score about 90% of the time.
Every year, I forget about MLB audio until they automatically renew it. Then I forget about it until September/October, and I'm glad I didn't cancel it.
Tack on, Sox, tack on.
Carloooos!
o.k. dagger time... again
been eating a delicious dinner, but convinced the wife to keep the game on. this is freaking sweet. hold up, you bastards!
I always feel good about the hitter's chances with the infield in.
No way.
Is this season for real?
geez. someone check rios' bat...
Granderson is not likely to win a Gold Glove this year.
He may win whatever the MLS equivalent of that is though.
I see the Kitties are continuing to cough up runs.
Unfortunately, their hairballs are from licking the White Sox, so they aren't very big?
I got nuthin.
Ick. At least we (they) got the 1 back.
seriously, this game should be about 12-1 right now, but if they can hold on, i'll take it.
Yeah. In fairness, Brent Lillibridge really sucks. Low-.200s wOBA sucks.
Damn, Lillybridge it's dagger time you bastard!
This game once again proves to me that the old axiom of " X team just wanted to win this game more" does not exist.
Are you saying the White Sox didn't want it more?
Man, I thought it was 5-3 there for sure.
Same here.
I don't know why, but the image of the guy in the tan sweat outfit ducking out of the way of a ball that hit the wall in front of him made me laugh.
it does kill me to gain satisfaction from hearing the hawk say, "he gone!", but again, i'll take it.
2005 ubelmann can't believe that Matt "The Towel" Thornton is pitching here.
I have to say, the Sox radio guys are not that bad. They actually talk about the game a lot, have some insightful things to say, and they don't have the blatant homerism of Hawk.
Sox radio was better when they had Steve Stone and not DJ.
DJ's the worst.
Is that where they put that asswipe?
Ladies and Gentlemen...your first-place Minnesota Twins!
Oh, that sounds so good. Say it again!
Ladies and Gentlemen...your first-place Minnesota Twins!!!
whooo!
Hell yes!!! TIED TIED TIED TIED TIED TIED TIED
Run the numbers on this, ubes. What are the Twins chances of winning the division now?
According to ESPN, Tigers are 91.8% to win the division. :)
I question their statistical acumen.
Coolstandings updated already. 57%. It was a mere 8.2% before Friday's game.
I guess that seems about right with the Twins having HFA in the potential playoff. There's roughly a 50% chance it'll get decided one way or the other tomorrow.
ZOMfuckingG! i can't believe this! tied! ha!
Tie division, y'all!
Baseball rules.
Gameday says Guillen should have strike three called twice, though barely
I never doubted it
I never did eitherI!!!!!!11!!!1one!!not
If the Twins win tomorrow they are going to have to play more than 162 games.
It's been a very good day for Twins fans.
Three perfect days in a row. This is Phillies-Mets stuff right here.
To: The White Sox
heh. nice. did i see new guy in there?
YUP I WAS DUMBLEDORE
My guess is Leyland goes with Verlander tomorrow.
That means if we win, we won't face him in the [potential] playoff game.
Right. Porcello, me thinks.
Hmmmm...Baker vs. E-Jax?
Maybe. He would be on short rest I think.
danks ain't been too shabby this year, so it could be a good matchup. plus, should it come down to it, less verlander for us!
Yeah, Danks vs. Verlander is a pretty great pitching matchup. Duensing vs. Hochevar, not so much. But hopefully Hochevar doesn't pull off one of his great games.
Pavano v. Hochevar, but who's counting? Same difference.
On full rest, Pavano is way, way better than Duensing. The CSN broadcast of the Tigers-Sox game kept telling me that Duensing was pitching tomorrow.
Unbelievable. I've stuck a fork in the Twins half a dozen times (at least) since August--most recently after Wednesday's loss.
If anyone needs me, I'll be sitting in the corner...

I might have written them off a few times, myself.
so did gleeman.
I did, too. And I did it in print (Dugout Splinters for the last Cleveland series at the Dome).
I am not sure today really happened, or the mescaline was providing a facade of hope and excitement.
Is this fun, or what?!
