Here we are, near the end of another regular season. There are two games left and the Twins are still alive and can win the division outright, if everything breaks their way. If almost everything breaks their way, they can force a one game playoff for the second consecutive year. And with Sunday being widely marketed (at least around here) as the last game of the Metrodome, I think it would be fitting if the Twins somehow got to game 163 and had the Vikings screw them over one more time. It would be a perfect end to a mostly crappy existence inside the worst baseball stadium I've ever seen (and I've been to Veteran's Stadium in Philadelphia!). Of course, by nightfall, the Twins 2009 season could be dead, but for now, it's Alive and Kicking.
It's not been the best year for Twins baseball, but at least we don't have to endure the craptastic display that a lot of other clubs put out there.
It has, however, been a great season at The WGOM. This isn't the most popular site out there, for sure. Traffic is up from last year, but we're not in any danger of pushing some other sites away (and besides, could my server handle it?). I have to tell you, though, that I don't give a shit about traffic numbers. This is my favorite site on the entire Internet. There's no one I'd rather sit and discuss the season with than those of you who have hung out here and made this so much fun.
My life is such that I can't devote one second more to this site than I already do. So, it doesn't run unless you pitch in and help. Believe me, I appreciate all of your help. You may have notice that the site used to be called SBG, but I changed it a long time ago to The WGOM to reflect the idea that it's more than me around here. There are so many that contribute and I appreciate you all. (DJs, take a bow.)
I do want to recognize those of you who have helped make our discussion of baseball this year what it has been. First of all, thanks to those of you who have taken a game long every week of the season. Spookymilk, thank you for taking Mondays. If there isn't at least a sideways reference to the WGOM on my TeeVee someday, I'm going to be really disappointed. You had a good winning streak at the end. Nice work. FirstTimeLongTime, a shout out to you and yours out there in Buffalo. Thank you. Have a Blue for me. SocalTwinsfan, thanks for your contribution. I consider you our resident optimist and I appreciate that when I'm down in the mouth about this club, you always have a little brighter perspective. Thanks also for your occasional posts and your This Day In Twins History. Maybe, if you are wondering what to do this winter, you can get a few of thoase in the can. brianS, the Twins record on Thursdays hasn't been very good, but your contributions have been A+. Thank you sir, you are a true friend to us all. Sean, you and I are the only locals who wrote game logs. I appreciate that you jumped in and took Fridays. You did a fine job and thank you for coming to the Convention so that I could meet you. Yickitt, it might all be on your shoulders tomorrow. If the Twins don't make it to the post season, I blame A.J. Pierzynski. Thank you sir, for being a fine friend of the WGOM.
JeffA, thanks for your minor league reports and your Happy Birthday feature. You are one of our good and great citizens and I appreciate everything you've done for all of us. ubelmann, thanks for your articles. They are always great. The door is always open. Write whenever and however much you want.
Finally, to all of you who hang out here -- the site is about every single one of you. If this site were just me shaking my first in the air at those who would have the temerity to encroach my grass, it would be of no interest to anyone. But, when guys (and a few gals) like you show up and shoot the breeze, this is just a lot of fun. Thank you for stopping by.
I intended to have this be a part of my final game log of the regular season, but I want that thing to load as fast as possible.

Thanks to you, SBG, and thanks to everyone who comes here and contributes, regardless of what way you do so. This is a wonderful place, and I'm happy to be able to be a part of it.
Aww, Stick, you old honeydripper!
I'm glad to be a part of it, and can't believe I've only just passed my one-year anniversary of posting here. It's hard to remember life before the WGOM...
This is more than just a website, Stick, this is a community. And I'm happy to be a part of it, now matter how small.
For various reasons, I haven't been able to peruse the site as much over the last couple of weeks as I would have liked. However, the previous night's game logs have still been an essential part of my mornings, and this season was immeasurably more enjoyable with you guys in tow.
Circumstances are clearing up, though, so when the Twins make the playoffs, I'll be back to full speed.
Nibbish brings up something very important to me, too. I don't get the Twins' games on FSN here in the People's Republic, and my family circumstances prohibit me from coughing up the scratch for the MLB feed (or the time commitment paying for it demands). That said, I never feel like a second-class citizen or fan when I do get to participate in a game log or in any other post to the site. Being able to participate, even at a remove, in a community so special is what keeps me hanging around as much as I can.
Thanks, not just to SBG, but to all the other Citizens, old and new, who have made and continue to make this such a special and inviting place to gather and be a Twins fan.
Thanks for raking the infield and striping the lines so we've got a place to play, Stick.
Oh, and Delmon thanks you, too.

I'm not sure I could have cared less about this team at the all-star break, but this last 30 or so games has been pretty fun to watch, flaws and all. It is a blessing as a fan, to be checking in by cell phone, for scores in September and October. Among other things, as has been said, the game logs at the WGOM are epic and worth reading in both the joy of victory and and agony of defeat. It's been a busy summer and is turning out to be an even busier fall, but I am thankful to have been able to connect with a few of you from the WGOM community. No matter what happens - how great is it going to be next year watching baseball outside with the citizens of the WGOM?
Go Twins!
Half baked crap has never been as good as it is here.
The only place I'd rather spend my time during a game would be at the game. The people here make watching a loss at least bearable and often even fun. Since this is baseball and even the best teams lose 60 games or more per year that's really important.
That said, I've felt a little like a leach this season. There are a few people here who really make this site work, doing games logs and writing articles. During the offseason, I'll be thinking about how I can make a contribution for next season. Hopefully I can come up with something interesting and unique.
bodly, there is the off-season too. I think I can speak for the Boss when I say we are always looking for features and occasionals to add to the half-bakery.
As always, SBG, thanks for inviting me to play in your sandbox. I'm the richer for it.
someday I'm gonna make it to a Convention. As the tribals in the family say, "Next year, in Minneapolis!" or something like that.
I just wanted to chime in and say thanks to SBG and everyone else who contributes to the site. I don't chime in as much as I'd like, but read just about everything on the site from entries to comments, and always love it. Without question the best Twins community around.
SBG, I second this, "This is my favorite site on the internet."
This site is awesome for Twins-related stuff. I check it out nearly every day during the season. I'm glad I found it 3 years ago during 2006. I know what you mean about having not a lot of time to devote to the site. I tried running a Twins blog and just didn't have the time (silly Actuarial exams getting in the way).
Here's to another great year and here's looking forward to next year (THE FIRST YEAR OF TARGET FIELD EVAR!)
I love this site. Thank you, everybody. And thanks to the Boss for putting up with my schtick.
Worf always gets the best lines.
Thanks to ya'll. It's been fun to send in letters here and there. Mostly I've been lurking, which has been fun, too.
I LOVE YOU TOO BOSS
This place rocks. Follwoing in the gamelogs is like watching a game with friends. Only I'm married and have kids and can't go to sports bars and don't want to. Plus, I don't have any friends who care enough or think along the same lines as you all. And I could never have friends over to watch games with me and then flake out for two innings to put the kids to bed or kill a mouse or fold the laundry.
Meeting you all has been fun, and so I look forward to the conventions and caucii.
Well said, AMR. I don't have anything to add to that other than I'm not allowed near the laundry. The dishes are UW's domain.
Did anyone else notice that we passed 800,000 visitors today? "Thank You" indeed. Was the timing intentional, Stick, or a happy accident?
Either way, congratulations.
And me, also. Only more so.
Happy Accident.
i agree with everyone here 100%. i came here after seeing tons of posts linked on gameday. i don't remember what it was, but i felt a need to reply to something, signed up, and here we are. living in chicago, i'm a bit disconnected. all my good friends are back home, and i don't really have anyone here that i, say, call up to see if they want to grab a beer. this place is a more than worthy substitute. i can't remember exactly what spooky said, but recently he mentioned how he was amused that knows everyone so well even though he wouldn't recognize them on the street. i can't say i know everyone that well, but i understand his point perfectly.
this site is such an amazing feat. i really hope you're proud of what you've created. shine on you crazy diamond!
This is the first site I check in the morning and usually the last one at night, with many visits inbetween. Thanks to all.
SBG, I echo the above statements that this is my favourite place on the whole internet. To find anyone who is like minded to me is a treat but to find people who are and also like the Twins is just about the best thing in the world.
I just wish that DPWY could give me a few hints on how to a significant other into creating an account so mine doesn't think it is so weird.
I got to chime here and agree with everyone. This place is awesome.
