Solar Sox Summary

David Cooper (Toronto) hit a home run with two out in the tenth to lift Mesa over Surprise 4-3 Saturday.

Cooper was the only Solar Sox player with two hits. Steve Singleton was the only Twins batter to play; he was 0-for-3, although he drove in the first run of the game in the second inning with a sacrifice fly.

On the mound, Steve Hirschfeld and Alex Burnett each pitched a scoreless inning. Hirschfeld allowed only a walk in the seventh. Burnett pitched the tenth, allowing a one-out single but getting the next batter to hit into a double play to get the save. The win went to Blake Parker (Cubs), who had blown the save by giving up two runs in the bottom of the ninth. Starter Randor Bierd (Boston) pitched five innings, giving up one run on two hits.

Jarrod Dyson (Kansas City) led Surprise with three hits. The losing pitcher was Michael Dunn (Yankees).

The Solar Sox are off Sunday. They will host Phoenix Monday afternoon.
