Back when I was about 12, Van Halen came out with their debut album. This was a 12 year old's dream. I wasn't listening to music with my sister any more, I was hanging out with other 12 year olds and their older brothers. Van Halen was all the rage. And Running with the Devil was the opening track. Back then, the Catholic priest in town was a kindly old man and he was a Monsignor. Someone decided that the lyrics of that song needed a change. So, to us, it was always "Running with Monsignor". The Chuckster was not involved in such things, as he was still pooping his pants back then. (I think he was six. I kid, Chuck! I kid!)
Hee hee!

Notes:
1. Remix of Annie's "Heartbeats"
8. An EP of covers of America and Bread
The Field remix of Annie's 'Heartbeat' intrigues me. What do they keep/throw from the original?
A lot actually.
If you've heard "From Here We Go Sublime," and see what he's done to the Flamingo's "I Only Have Eyes for You," Imagine that applied to "Heartbeats." It's very easy to hear the original in it, as well as that it's done by the Field. It's got snippets of verse vocals, and several takes of the chorus rush over each other at the same time. Definitely the poppiest thing Axel Wilner's ever done, which is a very good thing.
I think this was the first thing he did as "The Field," and he gave out the single at some club in Norway. Obviously, I found the file on the internet.

what did I do wrong with the embedding?
Maybe you need to mail the guy another check. :)
I took out the v and plugged it into the browser and you tube told me this:
So, my answer is that you didn't get the whole URL. Or you need to send the guy another check.

**Yes, that is the actual title of the album. Apparently, Swedish electronica artists believe in making emoticons right side up.
soundtracks!
"Rockin' the Suburbs" -- you forgot (featuring William Shatner) ;)
I sort of despise soundtracks that are just collections of popular songs that someone thought were tangentially related to a movie. So you can guess which one was a gift on this list! ;)
I know what you mean. Closely followed by Music Inspired by the Movie... "soundtracks".

Partial namesake of an important place in Twin Cities music history, too.
Indeed. Oarfolkjokeopus. And I believe Folkjokeopus was an old Roy Harper LP.
Right you are.
I visited the store just once, shortly after moving to Minnesota. Seemed like a decent, albeit small, store, but I was really an Electric Fetus devotee. Still, I can appreciate the importance of a shop where Mpls bands wanted to hang out and also was a rare place where a kid could get the latest punk records way back when.
Shat Attack!!!!
I knew there were devotees out there in the Nation ;-)
Be sure to look at my Facebook page today, bS.
"LM...AO!"
going back to Van Halen, I've been kind of liking their songs again. I have this love/hate thing with VH. But a couple month ago I heard the song 'Unchained' on the radio and was grooving to it and now I find myself once again air guitaring and lip synching along to VH songs (except for 'Dancing in the Street' man alive I have a severe dislike for this song no matter which of the 1,583 versions I hear. they are all terrible in my book).
"Dancing in the Street" officially jumped the shark when it was done as a sing-along for elementary school-age kids. Seriously, I grew up with that VHS.
The Chuckster should have gotten together with the Monsignor to start a band...Chuck Klosterman and the Cloisterman.

My wife's cousin is the textbook example of a California girl. I can't help but imagine her every time I hear that song.

I love that song too. And that album.
Mom loves Brad Paisley, so I've heard a lot of him during car rides. As far as country goes, he's pretty good. I'm more of a Cash/Nelson type myself, but I like a bit of Paisley now and then.
hey Yick, your blog hit "Disk Full" error or something? gone offseason?

#1 is a kids' favorite in our house, although I've soured on it a bit. Too perky maybe?
#10: Wow.
Yeah, I don't have a lot of excuses for #10. The less said about my listening habits from 10 years ago, the better.
'My Girls' isn't actually even my favorite of the CD (that would be 'Summertime Clothes' or 'Bluish' depending on the day), but it's still a really fun song. Even the wife likes it, and that is certainly saying something.
Hey now! Nothing wrong with a little Amy Grant. (i.e. I have that album, too)
i still don't know what an american aquarium drinker is.
I always took to mean he (the narrator/Tweedy) drinks like a fish. If you listen to it backwards, that is reverse chronologically, not in a "Paul is dead" kinda way, It makes more sense. He starts as a "dixie cup drinker" then ends as an "aquarium drinker", he's drinking more and more as he sabotages his relationship. Lyrics, from the wonderful Sea Black with Ink.
wow. i'd never put that much thought into it. nice dissection. i will quickly say that, for some reason, i've always really liked the phrase "bible-black predawn".
That is a fantastic line. It really has the right phonetics to sound really good. And it definitely evokes a strong mental image.
exactly right.
