Mesa led all the way as the Solar Sox defeated the Peoria Javelinas 8-1 Thursday.
P. J. Phillips (Angels) was the hitting star for Mesa, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run. Rene Tosoni was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in a run. Chris Parmelee was 0-for-4 and Steve Singleton was 0-for-3, although each of them drew a walk.
Alex Burnett was the only Twins pitcher to work; he pitched a perfect ninth, striking out two. The winning pitcher was starter Andrew Cashner (Cubs), who pitched four shutout innings. The loss went to Justin Cassel (White Sox).
Mesa travels to Surprise this afternoon.
