Hey twayn -- gonna watch the remake of The Prisoner series? It looks like good casting, etc., but I'm always on the fence re: remakes.
I missed that scene in Spinal Tap.
I'll watch it, but with a jaundiced eye to start. I'm a big fan of the original series, and I'm growing a bit weary of the entertainment industry's Herculean struggles to be original or creative anymore.
Saw the billboard for the Priz in Manhattan last weekend.
Same here, twas a fan of the original series which played on the public channel when they ran out of Monthy Python and Reginald Perrin's jaw was about to fall off.
Will be curious to see if new guy can furl his brow and curl his lip as well as McGoohan. LOTR'er as Number 2, O.K., but no magnets.
I didn't get where I am today selling ice creams tasting of bookends, pumice stone and West Germany!

Man, I wish they'd bring back Reggie.
so the Vikings win because both Chicago and Green Bay lost. Good times!
Joe C. doesn't really believe the Twins are going to make a run for Roy Holliday, does he?
I think he has been reading too many of his own comments.
So, we shouldn't try to outbid everyone for Lackey, but we should try to outbid everyone for Halladay, who is due $15.75M next year. Yeah, that totally makes sense.
Given that he mentions Pavano and Washburn first, I tend to think he was just trying to fill some column inches and get people to react in the comments.
Any other Citizens out there also wondering if a certain pink Barbie backpack was up for sale at the 'Dome garage sale?

Dude! That's Aurora, a.k.a. Sleeping Beauty. Sacrilege!
huh. looks like they have more than one backpack then. hope someone didn't overpay thinking it was unique.
well, look at that!

It's pink bullpen backpack day at WGOM

Jack Moore doesn't like the Twins' decision to pick up Cuddyer's 2011 option.
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/twins-pick-up-cuddyers-option
actually, he's not informed and thought they picked up his 2010 year.
I'm a one trick pony, but it's a good trick. Eric Hinske!
Between that FanGraphs post and that ridiculous flub at Beyond the Box Score over the weekend, it's been a banner 72 hours for half-assed baseball blogging.
Half-baked, I tell ya!
what ridiculous flub was that?
Cuddyer in CF. The pictures are still bogus since he's using only 2009 UZR data.
Suggesting that, in the wake of the Gomez/Hardy trade, Cuddyer should be the Twins starting CF based on a UZR of +27.4 in 17 innings this year.
Shades of Gorman Thomas?
Something like that, but I would probably trade Cuddyer's prime for Gorman's if given the chance.
If $70 million is a liberal estimation of next year's player salaries, I won't be happy.
Yeah, I thought that was kind of ridiculous. The Twins just took on Hardy's salary and a Mauer extension is presumably happening at some point (*crosses fingers*), but people still want to consider a $5 million increase in payroll from 2009-2011 as "liberal."
If Mauer gets a true extension, then that won't affect the 2010 payroll.
The $70 million in the Fangraphs post is referring to the 2011 payroll, if I'm reading it correctly. Unless it was updated after they screwed up what Cuddy's option year was.

New Twins commercial
I'd like to see the director's cut, featuring Delmon's unpacking scene. "Oh, here's Young. We just kinda shoved him in the same box as Gardy's socks and tossed it in the truck. Thought we'd lost him, but eventually we found him under the armrest with a couple of petrified French fries and some old pennies."
I take his info with a grain of salt, but Bob Sansevere reported this morning on KQRS that Bill Smith is still interested in bringing back Cabrera. Um...for what exactly? The only thing I can think of is moving Hardy to second.
Sansevere must have read Sid. Gardy (according to Sid) says he'd like to play Cabrera at second and Punto at third.
Scrubini Fixation!
Repeat: Punto at third.
That's better than Cabrera at third!
*secretly crosses fingers for more Orlando Ballgame*
file this under 'pretty cool'. a Flickr slidesow of color photos from the 30's and 40's

Super cool, thanks for sharing.
Also from the LoC: MLB Gameday, 1911. I bet it updated quicker too.
gabino claimed, morillo on 40-man, huber clears...
just as a bit of humor, i'll give you three guesses as to which team claimed another questionable twins pitcher.
I cheated and looked at the article.
lol
I'd have to guess Colorado.
Yanquis??!!
What, he's an accomplished Centaur painter?
I'm a little surprised no one claimed Justin Huber. Not that I think he'll be anything great, but he had a good year at Rochester has played outfield as well as first base, and could even be an emergency catcher (he was a catcher through 2004. It seems like he might be able to help somebody as a bench player.
I agree. He's a nice AAAA player and could potentially help some teams out in a pinch.
wait a minute, wasn't go-go the emergency catcher? am i remembering that correctly? if so, good to keep huber, and i really wish i could have seen plan D in action...
I would think The Mountie would be the emergency catcher. He caught in the minors.
When you are making 7 figures and a regular at a different position, you're no longer an option as the emergency catcher.
And yet Mauer is an option at 3rd?!
Nick Punto should be the 3rd catcher. his grittiness translates into good game calling
I like how Joe C. notes Morillo's 87 K in 67 innings, but fails to mention his 51 BB. Only Mulvey topped that with 54 free passes, but he did it in 149 innings. Morillo is basically Ricky Vaughn without the glasses.
actually, he amended the latest update to include that little nugget. i'm guessing you're not the only person to have brought that up.
Elias Free Agent Rankings have been released.
Type A - Orlando Cabrera
Type B - Carl Pavano
don't forget, it should be noted that orca's contract stipulates that the twins cannot offer him arbitration.
and i'm actually totally fine with that.
I don't know if anyone else is reading the new Simmons book but on page 660 he refers to the two expansion teams in 1996, Vancouver and Minnesota.
That's not just half-baked, that's twice-baked.
And he thought he could be the Wolves GM. Me neither.
Facts are for pussies.
And he didn't write about the Twins World Series in their second year of existence?
Did anyone see his interview on Colbert? I was hoping Colbert would knock him out of his chair.
CC to meat: If you and Dr. Chop want to get a hoot about a famous Buffalo street person, channel 4 has the goods.
now if only `cco would do a story on crazy mary.
I balls Buffalo.
what's worse, prison, or being a backup in Philly??
You haven't heard the news? He is going to replace Owens as the resident headcase in Buffalo once this season is done.
I played a Madden exhibition game the other day with the Falcons against the Browns and scored 126 points. Seven-minute quarters with the fast forward play clock. Vick had 440 yards rushing and was 5-for-5 with five touchdowns passing. I'm not sure if it was pro or All-Star level. Those Browns are awful. Gotta love that running QB.
FYI, it was the last Madden for PS2 before AP played for the Vikes, otherwise I would just play with them most likely.
is anyone watching the MNF game? it seems like the crowd is 50% Steelers fans
i am watching. first, yes. second, ward just made an ass out of bailey (you'll see it on espn).
So, I'm asleep on the couch. I wake up, go into my office and the TV is on. Tom Hanneman is talking about the Wolves going for their first road win of the season. They are currently down by 32. And he just talked about "another empty possession" for the Warriors -- they have 115 points with 9:06 left. He is the worst announcer in the history of bad announcers.
146-105. Ouch.
That's gonna leave a mark.
this is the same team that the Kevin Martin-less Kings throttled last night (120-107 and it was not that close)? Seriously?
