Mesa scored in the bottom of the ninth as the Solar Sox defeated Surprise 9-8 Wednesday. The win was the sixth consecutive victory for Mesa.
Jose Iglesias (Boston) led Mesa with a 4-for-4 day, including a double, a walk, and the game-winning RBI. David Cooper (Toronto) was 3-for-4 with a double. Rene Tosoni went 2-for-5 with a triple, a run, and an RBI. Steve Singleton and Chris Parmelee each went 0-for-5, with Singleton striking out twice and Parmelee three times. Surprise was led in batting by Edina, Minnesota native Ike Davis (Mets), the son of ex-Twin Ron Davis. He was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, driving in four runs.
Spencer Steedley pitched a scoreless fourth inning, dropping his ERA to 4.50. Blake Parker blew the save by giving up a two-run homer in the top of the ninth, but was credited with the win. Brennan Garr (Texas) took the loss for Surprise.
Mesa remains second 1.5 games out of first. Mesa hosts first-place Phoenix tonight.
