An eighth-inning two-run triple by Luis Antonio Jimenez and the pitching of Jason Simontacchi lifted Lara over Aragua 5-2 Saturday night.
Jimenez went 2-for-3 with a walk and drove in three runs in the game. Luis Valbuena (Cleveland) was 2-for-4 with a home run. Ronny Cedeno (Pittsburgh) led the Aragua offense with a home run. Yangervis Solarte was 1-for-4, Wilson Ramos was 0-for-3 with a walk, and Jonathan Goncalves was 0-for-2 with a walk.
Simontacchi held the Tigres to two runs (one earned) on four hits over 7.2 innings. Romulo Sanchez (Yankees) retired all four men he faced, three of them by strikeout, to get the win. Jermaine Van Buren gave up three runs in a third of an inning to take the loss.
The loss drops Aragua into seventh place with just four games remaining in the regular season. The Tigres host Caribes for a doubleheader this afternoon.
