Miracle Moments

Since last report, Ft. Myers is 3-4.  For the second half, the Miracle is 15-16, fourth in the FSL South, two games behind Bradenton.

QUICK SUMMARIES

Ft. Myers 13, Lakeland 4 in Ft. Myers.  Nathan Hanson and Nicholas Romero each had three hits, each with two doubles.  Steven Blevins threw 3.1 scoreless innings.

Ft. Myers 5, Brevard County 4 in Ft. Myers.  Nicholas Romero, Drew Thompson, and Angel Morales each had two hits.  Dakota Watts threw three shutout innings, allowing only a walk.  The Miracle overcame six errors.

Brevard County 2, Ft. Myers 1.  Estarlin De Los Santos hit two doubles.  Michael Allen threw two shutout innings, striking out three.

Brevard County 8, Ft. Myers 3.  Angel Morales had two hits with a triple.  Santos Arias gave up four runs on five hits and three walks in five innings.  Shooter Hunt allowed four runs on two hits and three walks in two innings.

Brevard County 6, Ft. Myers 3.  Evan Bigley had three hits and Jonathan Goncalves two.  Michael Tarsi allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits and two walks in four innings.  Steven Blevins three three shutout innings and Joe Testa two.

Ft. Myers 4, Dunedin 2 at Dunedin.  Nathan Hanson was 4-for-4 with a double.  Deibinson Romero hit two homers, drove in three, and scored three.  Daniel Osterbrock allowed two runs on six hits with eight strikeouts in six innings.

Dunedin 2, Ft. Myers 1.  Evan Bigley had two hits.  Kane Holbrooks went 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk with six strikeouts.

TRANSACTIONS

Kane Holbrooks was promoted from Beloit to Ft. Myers.  Estarlin De Los Santos was promoted from Ft. Myers to New Britain.

WEDNESDAY

The Miracle scored five in the second and seven in the seventh in blowing out Lakeland 13-4.  The Flying Tigers had scored four in the fifth to make it a game.

Nathan Hanson and Nicholas Romero each had three hits, each with two doubles and two RBIs.  Hanson scored three times and Romero two.  Chris Herrmann, Brian Dozier, and Allan de San Miguel each had two hits and two RBIs, with Herrmann contributing a triple.  Starter Kane Holbrooks, a reliever most of the season, worked four scoreless innings before running into trouble in the fifth; his line was four runs on three hits and three walks with six strikeouts in five innings.  It was his first appearance at Ft. Myers and his first win.  Steven Blevins worked 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk, to get the save.

Lakeland was led by Brandon Douglas, who had two hits.  Starter Mark Sorensen took the loss but pitched well other than in the second inning.  His line was five runs on five hits and two walks in five innings.  Michael Torrealba surrendered five runs on six hits in one inning of work and Erik Crichton gave up three runs on four hits and a walk in one inning.

THURSDAY

Ft. Myers overcame six errors to defeat Brevard County 5-4.  The Miracle scored two in the eighth to come back from a 4-3 deficit, with Allan de San Miguel doubling to drive in Drew Thompson with the winning run.

Thompson, Angel Morales, and Nicholas Romero each had two hits, with Morales doubling and Romero tripling.  Morales also had two RBIs.  Bruce Pugh went the first six innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits and four walks.  Dakota Watts got the win in relief, surrendering only a walk in three innings of work.  It was his first win at the high A level.

For the Manatees, Erik Komatsu had two hits with a double and drove in two runs.  Starter Danl Merklinger struck out eleven in six innings, but also allowed three runs on six hits and two walks.  The loss went to Mark Willinsky, who gave up two runs in two innings of work.

FRIDAY

Game postponed due to rain.

SATURDAY

Game 1

Brevard County scored single runs in the first and third to take a 2-1 victory over Ft. Myers.  The Miracle went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

Estarlin De Los Santos had two doubles and drove in the lone Miracle run.  Matthew Williams took the loss, giving up two runs on three hits and three walks in five innings.  Michael Allen threw two shutout innings, allowing only one hit and striking out three.

Sean Halton led Brevard County with two doubles.  Erik Komatsu hit a home run.  Kyle Heckathorn got the win with six solid innings, giving up a run on seven hits and two walks.  Corey Frerichs threw a scoreless ninth to get the save.

Game 2

Brevard County scored six runs in the last three innings as they took an 8-3 win over the Miracle.

Angel Morales led the Ft. Myers offense with two hits including a triple.  Santos Arias lasted five innings but surrendered four runs on five hits and three walks in taking the loss.  Shooter Hunt allowed four runs on two hits and three walks.  It was a day for walks, as Miracle pitchers walked six and Manatees pitchers walked eight.

The Manatees were led by Brock Kjeldgaard, who hit two home runs and drove in four.  Erik Komatsu had a single and a double and drove in two.  Peter Fatse doubled and walked three times, scoring two runs.  The winning pitcher was starter Cody Scarpetta who allowed a run on three hits and five walks with nine strikeouts in five innings.  Mark Willinsky worked the final 1.1 innings scorelessly to get a save.

SUNDAY

Three two-run innings will beat three one-run innings, as Brevard County proved in beating the Miracle 6-3.  The Manatees scored two in the second, third, and fourth, while Ft. Myers tallied once in the third, fourth, and ninth innings.

Evan Bigley led the Miracle offense with three hits, while Jonathan Goncalves had two.  Starter Michael Tarsi took the loss, surrendering six runs (five earned) on six hits and two walks in four innings to drop his record to 4-9.  The bullpen did well, with Steven Blevins coming through with three shutout innings of relief and Joe Testa following with two.

For Brevard County, Brock Kjellgaard and Shawn Zarraga each had two hits, with Kjellgaard contributing a double.  R. J. Seidel pitched the first four innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks.  Brandon Ritchie got the win with two scoreless innings of relief.

MONDAY

No games scheduled.

TUESDAY

Ft. Myers scored one in the sixth and one in the eighth to take a 4-2 win over Dunedin.

Deibinson Romero drove in the first three runs, hitting a two-run homer in the first and a solo shot in the sixth.  He scored three times in the game.  Nathan Hanson was 4-for-4 with a double.  Angel Morales had two hits.  Daniel Osterbrock got the win, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk in six innings.  He struck out eight.  Michael Allen threw two perfect innings with three strikeouts.  Dakota Watts worked a perfect ninth for his first FSL save.

For Dunedin, Justin McClanahan had two doubles.  Ryan Page took the loss, allowing three runs on nine hits.

WEDNESDAY

Dunedin scored single runs in the third and sixth to defeat Ft. Myers 2-1.

The Miracle offense consisted of five singles and six walks.  Evan Bigley led the way with two singles.  Kane Holbrooks took a tough loss in his second start, pitching 5.1 innings and giving up two runs on five hits and a walk.  He struck out six.  Joe Testa worked 1.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts and Steven Blevins fanned two in a perfect eighth.

For the Blue Jays, Ryan Goins and Justin McClanahan each had a double and a single.  Starter Chad Beck, normally a reliever, pitched four shutout innings, allowing two hits and three walks with four strikeouts.  Joel Carreno got the win despite allowing the only Ft. Myers run in two innings of work.  Frank Gailey worked two shutout innings of relief, striking out three, and Matthew Daly had a scoreless ninth for his twenty-third save.

COMING UP NEXT

Ft. Myers has two more games in Dunedin.  The Miracle then comes home for four against Tampa, then hits the road again for four in Clearwater.
