We're going to have it at the same place, Chatterbox, again. Sorry to suggest otherwise. This Wednesday. 5:30ish! Hope you can make it. It's time for another WGOM Caucus. Date: February 24 I think it's time to move somewhere else after the last caucus, which featured a po'ed server because we sat a a reserved table (honestly, I didn't see the sign and we certainly would have moved if he'd have said, hey, I'm sorry, this is a reserved table and really, it wasn't like the place was crowded or anything) and the cheesy music ("Mr. Roboto"). Be sure to show up and tell New Guy that he captured the essence of Nick Punto (provided he shows up and claims his free beer). Let me know in an LTE if you can make it. If you have a preferred location, add that, too. SBG Scheduled for December 22, 2009 at 5:30PM. It'll be at Chatterbox again, unless I change it. Who can make it? There will be a WGOM Caucus at 5:30 at Chatterbox over by Hiawatha (2229 E 35th St) on Wednesday. How about a caucus next Wednesday, November 11 at Chatterbox in S. Minneapolis? I can be there about 5:30 or so and we can eat and drink for a couple of hours, while we discuss all that needs to be discussed. Who's in? After the jump there are some maps. Aw crap. Game time on Saturday is 3:10PM. I could have sworn it was the usual 6:10. Okay, picnic is from 11:00AM to 2:00PM. Shite. In my defense, I was dealing with the death of my f-i-l when I made the switch from Aug. 1 to Aug. 15. Well, I haven't yet ordered game tickets, and so if you want a ticket, there's still time. As for the picnic, Banjo and I talked last night about food and we'll have enough, I think, for a few stragglers. It's going to be in the mid 80s on Saturday, a perfect day to come out and join in on the fun. Remember, the picnic is at Minnehaha Falls Park, so if you want to wander around and enjoy the beautiful scenery, feel free to do so. Bring a frisbee, a ball and glove, whatever, and enjoy a beautiful summer day along with some tasty picnic food and hopefully some fun chatting with your fellow citizens. I will post some directions to Minnehaha Falls Park tomorrow. Generally, it is on Hiawatha (Highway 55) in South Minneapolis. Picnic spots are first come first serve, so I'll be at the park at about 5:30 AM to snag a spot -- last year's spot was pretty good, so I might go for that exact same spot, if I can get it. If you haven't said yes, yet, there's still time. If you have said yes, drop me an email at sbg at stickandballguy and we'll exchange cell numbers so that if anything comes up or you can't find the place on Saturday, you can call me. 12:00-5:00 on Saturday. Game following. If you want a ticket for the game on Saturday, this is your last chance! I will be ordering the Tickets on Thursday. If you haven't said so, please let me know. If you have said so, I'll be buying you tickets. Why haven't you committed to the SBG Convention? There are going to be a lot of the WGOMers there. SBG is going to be there. Lucy and Miss SBG are going to be there. Banjo is going to be cooking up delicious brats. Food, soft drinks in a beautiful setting. $5 a person, $10 a family. What could possibly be so important that you would miss such an event? Plus, a game with SBG later that night. Good grief, are you crazy? Sign up before the rest of the nation thinks less of you. It appears that the 15th is a better day for most and the situation in Winona is grave, so I'm probably out for the 1st, too. So, I have decided to move the Convention to the 15th. Please indicate here whether you can make it. Date: August 15th What: Picnic, followed by game at the Metrodome. Cost: $5, $10 for a family Just a reminder that next weekend is the Convention. I realize that I haven't done a lot to publicize this and I apologize. We've had a pretty good response on the picnic so far -- and I will tell you that Seth Stohs has indicated that he will be there. I want to encourage you to consider coming and going to the game, too. When: Aug 1 Friends, I hope you can come if it works out. I have been putting off the Convention for awhile because I'm not 100% sure, given my family situation, that I can make it myself. But, after thinking about it for a while, I've decided that we need to go forward. I've come to realize that this group isn't about me, and if I'm not there, there's still plenty of people who will want to be there. I am planning to be there, unless I'm just flat out unable. The date is August 1. The place is Minnehaha Falls Park. The time is 12:00 Noon. We will have a picnic. Bring your glove if you want to play catch. Bring your family. Have a little food and go enjoy the park if you want. At 5:00 we'll head off on the Light Rail to the Twins game. I'm asking for $5 a person/$10 a family for the picnic. We'll provide food, plates, utensils, etc., ad soda pop. If you want a ticket to the game, I'll buy a block of tickets in upper deck reserved for everyone that says, "I want a ticket". I think they are $20 a piece. If you are planning on taking part, please let me know. Last year's event was a lot of fun. It was a beautiful day, we had about 20 or 30 people there to enjoy conversation, some delicious Banjo cooked brats and various other picnicky type foods. It was a lot of fun to visit with the people who converse around here. I would hope that you will consider joining us. Again, we'll start at noon and we'll have food available through out the day. Be a part of the 3rd Annual Convention and show your WGOM bonafides. To sign up, leave a response here. I will contact you from there to firm things up. Hey everyone. Here are some pictures from this weekend's convention. I posted these in kind of a rush. I haven't had a chance to tweak them in Photoshop yet, so some of the pictures are a little dark. I'll re-post them when I have a chance to clean them up. Also, I know I have pictures of New Guy and Greenmachine somewhere too, so I'll make sure they get up.
Well, the Second Annual SBG Convention is now history. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. We had a beautiful day in the park, a pretty good turnout and a nice Twins win. I got to Minnehaha Falls Park early in the morning so that I could claim a spot. There were a couple of choice spots that were already taken, but I was able to snag a decent spot, albeit one that was a ways away from the parking lot. All that meant really, was that trips to the car to get stuff took a little longer. Andrew and his friend Q were the first to arrive. Our guy Andrew ran a 5K Saturday morning, and they came over to the Park from there. Then, my right hand man on the Convention, Banjo showed up and we started cooking. Pretty soon, the other people showed up and we had a nice picnic. Folks were talking baseball, visiting in general and having a good time. BabySBG was there, and most folks got to "hear" what a fish said. Folks got a chance to meet the inimitable ubelmann. I didn't get a chance to talk to him as much as I would have liked, but that's okay. It was fun to actually met him and put a face to all the writings. Will Young brought a delicious birthday cake in honor of Sheenie, his wife and SBG Nation citizen and Andrew, both of whom were celebrating birthdays that day. I was not celebrating my birthday, but I enjoyed the cake nonetheless. It seemed like the day just flew by. I think we could have started the thing at 12 Noon and people would still have been reluctant to head out at 5 PM. But, we had to get to the game. So, off we went. The game itself was fast moving, with very little offense until the Twins exploded for six runs in the seventh inning. New Guy made a number of predictions, and I'm pretty sure all of them came true. Ha! John Bonnes, AKA, "The Twins Geek" stopped by at the game and gave us all free copies of his wonderful "Game Day" program. Thanks, John. All in all, it was a fun day. I got to spend some time talking with pretty much everyone, which was cool. Anytime you get to talk Twins with the likes of Aaron, Seth, Nick and all the rest of the guys is a good time. Thanks to everyone who came to the Convention and thanks to Banjo for all your help. It was a fun time. Hopefully, next year's convention will be even better. |
