Snappers Snippets

Beloit was 30-40 in the second half of the season, in seventh place in the ML West, 13.5 games behind Peoria. For the season, they were 57-83, the worst record in their division, twenty-five games worse than Peoria.

Saturday

In a game that made people wonder where this had been all season, the Snappers put together two six-run innings and defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 19-8 in Beloit.  Wisconsin started the scoring with three runs in the second inning, getting a walk, three singles, and two more walks to take a 3-0 lead, but they left the bases loaded.  The Snappers got one back in the bottom of the second when Daniel Rams walked and scored on a Jon Waltenbury double.  In the third, Beloit got the first of its six-run innings.  Much of the damage came before any batter was retired:  Angel Morales walked, Aaron Hicks singled, Drew Thompson doubled, Nathan Hanson walked, Ozzie Lewis reached on an error, and Rams singled, producing the first four runs of the inning.  The next two batters went out, but Reggie Williams came through with a two-run double to put the Snappers up 7-3.  The Timber Rattlers got one back in the fourth on a Michael Vass homer to make the score 7-4, but Beloit had another big inning in the fourth, again doing most of the damage with no one out:  Hicks walked, Thompson singled, Hanson was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Lewis doubled to drive in two, and two wild pitches drove in two more runs to put the Snappers ahead 11-4.  Beloit added a single run in the fifth when Morales doubled, went to third on a ground out, and scored on a single by Hanson, and got one more in the sixth when Waltenbury homered to make the score 13-4.  Wisconsin tried to get back into the game in the seventh, scoring three times on a double, a single, a triple, and another single, but the Snappers answered with their second six-run inning:  Morales tripled, Hicks doubled, Thompson and Hanson walked, Lewis hit a two-run double, Rams and Waltenbury walked, Williams singled, and Morales walked, making the score 19-7.  Beloit gave the Timber Rattlers a meaningless but painful run in the ninth on three hit batsmen and a wild pitch.  Lewis had three hits, scoring three runs and driving in five.  Hicks, Thompson, Hanson, and Morales each had two hits and scored three times.  Williams also had two hits, and Rams scored three runs.  Daniel Berlind was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst, getting the win in five innings of work in which he gave up four runs and six hits and struck out seven.

Sunday

Beloit took an early lead and held on to defeat Wisconsin 4-3.  The Snappers scored two in the first when Aaron Hicks singled, Drew Thompson tripled, and Nathan Hanson hit a sacrifice fly.  The Timber Rattlers loaded the bases in the third to no avail, and Beloit was able to expand its lead in the fifth on singles by Michael Harrington, Reggie Williams, and Angel Morales.  Wisconsin got on the scoreboard in the sixth on a single, a stolen-base-plus-error, and a ground out, and threatened to at least tie the game in the sventh when they put runners on second and third with no one out, but the score stayed 3-1 until the bottom of the seventh, when the Snappers scored when Aaron Hicks reached base on a fielder's choice, stole second and third, and scored on a throwing error.  With the score 4-1 in the eighth, the Timber Rattlers got a single, a double, and a single to make the score 4-3.  A walk and a double steal put the go-ahead run on second with two out, but a fly out ended the threat.  Wisconsin got a leadoff single in the ninth, but did not advance the runner beyond first.  Williams had three hits for Beloit.  Bruce Pugh got the win, giving up only one hit in five shutout innings and striking out ten.  Billy Bullock pitched a scoreless ninth to get the save.

Monday

The Snappers closed out their season with a three-game winning streak as they defeated Wisconsin 5-1.  Beloit loaded the bases with one out in the first, but a strikeout and a line out ended the threat.  The Snappers got a runner to third base with one out in the second, and loaded the bases in the third, but the game remained scoreless.  The Timber Rattlers broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth with a Brandon Sizemore solo homer.  That broke the ice, and Beloit plunged in, scoring three times in the bottom of the fourth on a double by Adan Severino, a walk to Reggie Williams, an RBI double by Aaron Hicks, a sacrifice fly by Drew Thompson, a stolen base, and a throwing error.  The Snappers scored two more in the sixth on back-to-back doubles by Williams and Hicks and a single by Thompson.  The only other Wisconsin threat came in the ninth, when they got a two-out triple.  Hicks had two hits for Beloit.  Daniel Osterbrock got the win, giving up only one run on four hits in seven innings with nine strikeouts.  Kyle Carr pitched two shutout innings of relief, striking out five.

Statistical notes:  The Snappers were ninth in runs, seventh in doubles, tied for ninth in triples, and ninth in home runs.  They were seventh in walks and thirteenth in stolen bases.  The Snappers were eighth in OBP, ninth in SLG, ninth in AVG, and ninth in OPS.

Beloit is 27-40, in seventh place in the ML West, 14.5 games behind Peoria.

Monday

The Snappers lost a pitchers' duel to the Burlington Bees 3-1 in Beloit.  In the first six innings, each team put only two runners into scoring position, and no runner got as far as third base.  In the seventh, two singles and a triple put Burlington in the lead 2-0.  The Snappers got one in the eighth when Aaron Hicks walked, stole second, and scored on a Ramon Santana single.  Beloit gave the Bees an insurance run in the ninth on a walk, a passed ball, and a pickoff error.  The Snappers got they tying run to bat in the ninth, but did not come any closer to tying the game than that.  James Beresford had two hits for Beloit.  Bruce Pugh pitched well in taking the loss, giving up two runs on four hits in seven innings and striking out seven.

Tuesday

Off Day

Wednesday

Beloit again scored only one run, and it again was not enough, as the Snappers lost to the Quad Cities River Bandits 2-1 in twelve innings in Quad Cities.  Beloit scored its run in the first inning, as James Beresford singled, stole second, went to third on a ground out, and scored on an Aaron Hicks sacrifice fly.  The River Bandits put a runner on second in each of the first three innings, but finally scored in the sixth on a walk and a double.  Neither team put another runner to third until the tenth, when Quad Cities got a man there with one out on a double and a bunt.  A pair of strikeouts ended that threat, and the game continued.  The Snappers got a two-out double in the top of the twelfth, but it went for nought.  The first two River Bandits were retired in the bottom of the twelfth, but a walk and a double brought home the winning run.  Nathan Hanson had two hits for Beloit.  Daniel Osterbrock pitched six innings, giving up a run on four hits.  Steven Blevins and Billy Bullock each pitched two shutout innings of relief.  Thomas Wright took the loss.

Thursday

The Snappers offense did a little better, but it was not enough as they lost to Quad Cities 8-3.  Each team scored in the first inning:  James Beresford reached on an error, went to second on a walk to Aaron Hicks, and scored on a Daniel Rams single; the River Bandits scored on an error, a stolen base, and a double.  Beloit took a short-lived lead in the second when Adan Severino singled, went to third on a stolen-base-plus-error, and scored on Dominic De La Osa's single.  Quad Cities took its first lead of the game in the bottom of the second, scoring twice on two singles, an error, and another single to go ahead 3-2.  In the third, Hicks tripled and scored on an error to tie the score at three, but the River Bandits came back with three in the bottom of the third on a walk, a double, and three singles to go ahead 6-3.  Quad Cities scored two more runs in the fifth on two walks, a wild pitch, and a single.  Beloit loaded the bases with two out in the sixth, but that was the closest they came to getting back into the game.  Severino and Drew Thompson each had two hits.  Liam Hendriks took the loss, giving up six runs (four earned) on eight hits in four innings.  Brad Stillings pitched two shutout innings of relief.

Friday

Quad Cities scored four in the first and never looked back as they defeated Beloit 11-5.  A triple, two singles, a double, and another single put the River Bandits up 4-0 in the first inning.  The Snappers came back with two in the third on a double by Jeff Lanning and a two-run homer by Aaron Hicks, but a double and a single in the bottom of the third made it 5-2.  Beloit scored again in the fourth, as Nathan Hanson walked, Ozzie Lewis singled, Michael Harrington walked to load the bases, and an error brought in a run to make the score 5-3.  In the bottom of the fourth, however, two doubles, a stolen base, and an error plated two more for Quad Cities to give the River Bandits a 7-3 lead.  The Snappers challenged again in the seventh, getting two runs on singles by Adan Severino, Dominic De La Osa, Hicks, and Hanson to cut the lead to 7-5, but Quad Cities put the game away in the eighth, scoring four times on a walk, a two-run homer by Domnit Bolivar, a single, two errors, and a wild pitch.  Beloit made five errors in the game.  Hicks was the only Snapper with two hits.  Brad Tippett took the loss, giving up seven runs (five earned) on ten hits in four innings.  Kyle Carr pitched three shutout innings of relief.

Notes:  Ramon Santana was promoted to New Britain...Beloit did not have anyone named to the Midwest League postseason all-star team...Wednesday's loss officially eliminated the Snappers from the playoffs...James Beresford, Brad Tippett, and Liam Hendriks have left the team to play for Australia in the World Cup.

Snappers Snippets

A couple of days ago, I forgot the Snappers in the rotation of minor league reports. My excuse is that the Snappers are having a thoroughly forgettable season. In the second half, Beloit is 27-36, in sixth place, 12.5 games behind Peoria.

Thursday, August 20

The Snappers scored three runs in the third inning as they defeated the Kane County Cougars 5-1 in Beloit.  Kane County opened the game with a walk and two singles to take a 1-0 lead, but the Snappers tied it in the bottom of the first on a Ramon Santana home run.  In the third, Angel Morales reached on an error and James Beresford and Aaron Hicks each singled, scoring one run and putting runners on first and third.  A double steal scored Beresford and put Hicks on second, and Hicks then stole third and scored on a Daniel Rams single to give Beloit a 4-1 lead.  In the seventh, the Snappers added an insurance run when Hicks walked, Santana singled to send Hicks to third, and Beloit pulled off another double steal of second and home.  Four times, the Cougars got a runner to third base, but could not get him any farther.  Kane County went 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position.  Beresford, Hicks, and Santana each had two hits.  Bruce Pugh pitched 4.2 innings, giving up one run on five hits and striking out eight.  Thomas Wright pitched 2.1 shutout innings of relief to get the win.  Winston Marquez and Steven Blevins each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Friday, August 21

Beloit blew a 5-0 lead, but came back to defeat Kane County 9-6.  The Snappers took the five-run lead in the second inning:  Daniel Rams doubled, Nathan Hanson and Michael Harrington singled, Jeff Lanning hit a two-run homer, Angel Morales singled and stole second and third, and James Beresford singled.  The Cougars got on the scoreboard in the fifth with an error and a double, but the lead appeared to be safe until the eighth, when Kane County opened the inning with two doubles, a walk, and a single, and with one out got a double, a single, a walk, and another single.  They scored five times in the inning and took a 6-5 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth, Beloit came back, getting singles by Ramon Santana, Hanson, Lanning, Drew Thompson, and Morales to score four times and go ahead 9-6.  The Cougars went down in order in the ninth.  Hanson had three hits and Lanning and Morales each had two, with Lanning driving in four runs.  Daniel Osterbrock gave up only an unearned run in 5.2 innings, allowing three hits and striking out six.  Kyle Carr pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, Billy Bullock got the win in relief, and Daniel Berlind pitched a perfect ninth for the save.

Saturday, August 22

Liam Hendriks allowed only one hit in seven innings as the Snappers blanked Kane County 4-0.  Beloit took a 2-0 lead in the third when Jeff Lanning singled and Angel Morales hit a two-run homer.  In the sixth, Jon Waltenbury singled and Dominic De La Osa was hit by a pitch, and they both scored when Morales reached on a two-base error.  The Cougars had only one baserunner in the first six innings, on a walk, until a leadoff single broke up the no-hitter in the seventh.  James Beresford was the only Snapper with two hits.  Hendriks got the win.  Thomas Wright pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, and Billy Bullock struck out the only man he faced to get a save.

Sunday, August 23

Kane County snapped the Snappers' winning streak, defeating Beloit 3-2.  The Cougars took the lead in the third inning on a triple and a ground out, and went ahead 3-0 in the sixth on a hit batsman, a double, a walk, and a single.  The Snappers loaded the bases in the fourth, but did not get a run until the seventh when Drew Thompson homered.  Beloit scored again in the eighth when Aaron Hicks doubled, Ramon Santana walked, and Daniel Rams singled.  The Snappers loaded the bases with one out, but a double play ended the inning.  Beloit got a leadoff walk in the ninth, but did not advance the runner past first.  Rams had three hits, two of them doubles, and Angel Morales had two hits.  Brad Tippett took the loss, giving up three runs on six hits in six innings.  Kyle Carr pitched two shutout innings and Steven Blevins pitched a scoreless ninth.

Monday

As the two teams moved to Kane County, Beloit tied the game in the ninth, but lost it in the tenth as the Snappers fell to the Cougars 4-3.  Beloit took a 1-0 lead in the third when Drew Thompson walked, went to third on a pickoff error, and scored on a James Beresford single.  The Cougars took the lead in the fifth on two bunt singles and three walks, going ahead 2-1.  The Snappers tied it in the seventh on two errors and a Beresford single.  Kane County took the lead in the eighth on a walk, a double, and an error, but Beloit tied the score at three in the ninth on a Jeff Lanning double, a fly out, and a wild pitch.  In the bottom of the tenth, however, two singles, a hit batsman, and another single put the game into the win column for the Cougars.  Beresford had three hits and Aaron Hicks had two.  Winston Marquez pitched four shutout innings, giving up only one hit and striking out seven.  Steven Blevins took the loss.

Tuesday

Beloit lost its third in a row to Kane County, dropping a 6-4 decision.  The Snappers again scored first, as Aaron Hicks hit a first inning homer to give Beloit a 1-0 lead.  A triple, a walk, and a double produced two Cougars runs in the third to give Kane County a 2-1 advantage.  In the fifth, Nathan Hanson was hit by a pitch, Dominic De La Osa doubled, Angel Morales singled, and James Beresford doubled to put the Snappers up 3-2.  Kane County tied it in the bottom of the fifth on a walk, an error, and a single.  Beloit got the lead back at 4-3 in the sixth on singles by Hanson, De La Osa, and Morales, but the Cougars took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three times on an error, a single, another error, a wild pitch, and a double.  Beloit got only one more baserunner after that.  Beresford, Ozzie Lewis, De La Osa, and Morales each had two hits.  Bruce Pugh gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits and five walks in five innings.  He struck out six.  Kyle Carr took the loss, with Billy Bullock pitching a scoreless inning.

Wednesday

The Snappers got only three hits as they were shut out by Kane County 7-0.  The Cougars got a run in the first on a walk, an error, and a single, and got another in the third on three singles.  Kane County took control of the game in the fifth when three singles, a walk, and two more singles produced four runs and a 6-0 lead.  A walk, an error, and a single gave the Cougars one more run in the sixth.  Beloit did not get a hit until the fifth, and managed only three singles for the game.  Kane County pitchers struck out thirteen Snappers, with only James Beresford avoiding a K.  Daniel Osterbrock took the loss, giving up six runs (five earned) on eleven hits in 4.1 innings.  He did strike out six.  Infielder Nathan Hanson pitched the eighth inning, and was the only Beloit pitcher to go unscored upon.

Thursday

Beloit made up for its lack of offense, pounding out nineteen hits in a 9-1 defeat of Kane County.  Liam Hendriks again gave up only one hit, this time in six innings.  Singles by Jon Waltenbury, Drew Thompson, and Angel Morales gave the Snappers a 1-0 lead in the second inning.  In the third, Ramon Santana tripled, Ozzie Lewis doubled him in, Nathan Hanson singled, Thompson walked to load the bases, and a walk to Morales forced in a run to put Beloit ahead 3-0.  The Snappers added to their lead in the fourth:  Santana walked, Lewis singled, Hanson hit a sacrifice fly, Waltenbury singled, two errors moved Waltenbury to third, and Jeff Lanning singled him in to put Beloit up 6-0.  In the fifth, Morales reached on an error and Santana and Lewis singled, making the score 7-0.  Beloit scored two more in the sixth, as Waltenbury doubled and Morales, James Beresford, and Aaron Hicks singled.  Hendriks pitched five hitless innings before giving up a single in the sixth.  Lewis had four hits, Santana and Waltenbury each had three (with Waltenbury scoring three times), and Beresford, Hicks, and Morales each had two (with Morales driving in three runs).  Hendriks got the win, striking out six.  Daniel Berlind pitched the final three innings to get a save.

Rained out

Saturday

The Snappers finally got to play someone other than Kane County, as they defeated the Burlington Bees 5-2 in Beloit.  Each team stranded runners in scoring position in the early innings, but the Snappers broke through in the third, scoring twice on a single by Michael Harrington and doubles by Angel Morales and Ramon Santana.  Beloit added to its lead in the fourth as Nathan Hanson doubled, Daniel Rams walked, and Morales hit a three-run homer to put Beloit ahead 5-0.  Burlington got only two singles from the fourth through the eighth before finally spoiling the shutout in the ninth on a double, a walk, a single, and a sacrifice fly.  Santana, and Morales, and James Beresford each had two hits, with Morales driving in three runs.  Brad Tippett pitched eight shutout innings, giving up five hits to get the win.

Tuesday, August 11

The Snappers scored two in the bottom of the eighth to defeat the Clinton LumberKings 6-4 in Beloit.  Clinton loaded the bases with no one out in the first, but did not score, so Daniel Rams was able to open the scoring for the Snappers in the second with a home run.  They scored two in the fourth on singles by Ozzie Lewis, Rams, and Jon Waltenbury and a sacrifice fly by Nathan Hanson to go ahead 3-0.  They made it 4-0 in the fifth when Drew Thompson singled, went to third on an error, and scored on James Beresford's squeeze bunt.  Beloit seemed to have things under control, as Liam Hendriks had thrown five shutout innings, but the LumberKings scored in the sixth on a triple and a sacrifice fly, pulled within one at 4-3 in the seventh on a single, a hit batsman, and two more singles, and tied it in the eighth with a single, a stolen base, and a single.  In the bottom of the eighth, however, Aaron Hicks singled, Rams walked, and Ramon Santana delivered a two-run double to give the Snappers a lead they would never relinquish.  Rams and Thompson each had two hits, with Rams scoring three runs.  Hendriks pitched 6.1 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits.  Steven Blevins pitched 1.1 shutout innings of relief to get the win.

Wednesday, August 12

Clinton again scored four, and this time it was enough as the LumberKings defeated Beloit 4-2, snapping the Snappers four-game winning streak.  A Jacob Shaffer homer put Clinton ahead 1-0 in the second inning.  The Snappers tied it in the sixth when Aaron Hicks got a bunt single, advanced to third on two wild pitches, and scored on a Jon Waltenbury single.  In the seventh, a single, two walks, and another single led to two LumberKing runs and put Clinton ahead 3-1.  The LumberKings got an insurance run in the eighth without using much lumber:  a walk, a stolen base, a ground out, and a wild pitch made the score 4-1.  In the bottom of the eighth, Hicks walked, took second on a wild pitch, and scored on a pair of ground outs, but that was the extent of the Beloit comeback.  Waltenbury, Ramon Santana, and Angel Morales each had two hits.  Brad Tippett took a tough-luck loss, giving up only two runs on three hits in 6.2 innings.

Thursday

Clinton scored three in the third and never looked back as the LumberKings defeated the Snappers 7-1.  Four singles and a couple of productive outs produced the three runs, which put Clinton ahead 3-0.  Jacob Shaffer homered in the fourth to make it 4-0, and two singles, a walk, and a sacrifice fly made it 5-0 after five.  The nearest Beloit came to scoring during this time was in the fourth, when the Snappers put runners on first and second with two out.  In the eighth, two singles sandwiched a double and put the LumberKings ahead 7-0.  Beloit's lone run came in the bottom of the eighth when Drew Thompson tripled and scored on a ground out.  Ramon Santana had two of the five Snapper hits.  Daniel Berlind took the loss, giving up five runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings.  Thomas Wright pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Friday

Bruce Pugh and three relievers combined on a three-hitter as Beloit defeated Clinton 2-0.  Singles by Jon Waltenbury and Dominic De La Osa and a wild pitch produced the first Snappers run in the second inning.  The LumberKings got their first hit, a leadoff double, in the fourth, but could not advance the runner past third.  Beloit loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the fourth, but a strikeout ended the threat.  Clinton got another leadoff double in the eighth, and advanced the runner to third with a bunt, but the next two batters struck out to end the inning.  In the bottom of the eighth, back-to-back doubles by Ramon Santana and Daniel Rams gave the Snappers an insurance run.  Aaron Hicks, Santana, and Jon Waltenbury each had two hits for Beloit.  Pugh got the win, giving up only two hits in six shutout innings and striking out seven.  Brad Stilllings, Steven Blevins, and Billy Bullock each pitched a scoreless inning of relief, with Bullock getting the save.

Saturday

The Snappers got a rare good outing from Daniel Osterbrock in defeating the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 4-2 in Wisconsin.  Beloit took a 2-0 lead in the second, getting a single by Daniel Rams and doubles by Michael Harrington and Dominic De La Osa off rehabbing Wisconsin starter Jeff Suppan.  A Brock Kjeldgaard homer made it 2-1 after two, but the Snappers scored again in the third when James Beresford doubled and scored on two ground outs, and once more in the fourth when Jon Waltenbury tripled and scored on a ground out, putting Beloit ahead 4-1.  In the fifth, a walk, two singles, and an error produced a run for the Timber Rattlers to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the seventh, Wisconsin opened the inning with consecutive singles, and loaded the bases with two out, but did not score.  The tying run reached base with two out in the ninth on a single and a walk, but a popup ended the game.  No Snapper had more than one of the team's six hits.  Osterbrock got the win, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits in five innings and striking out seven.  Kyle Carr pitched 1.2 shutout innings, Steven Blevins 1.1, and Billy Bullock one to get the save.

Monday

Neither the pitching nor hitting went well this day, as Wisconsin took control early and defeated the Snappers 8-2.  The Timber Rattlers scored four in the second inning on a double, a single, a hit batsman, another double, and a triple.  Beloit got one in the third when Michael Harrington, James Beresford, and Aaron Hicks all singled and Ramon Santana was hit by a pitch, but the Snappers left the bases loaded, including leaving the tying run on first.  Beloit would never get closer, as Wisconsin scored three more in the third on a single, a double, an error, another single, and an infield out to take a 7-1 lead.  The Snappers managed one more run in the sixth when Ozzie Lewis walked and scored on an error.  The Timber Rattlers got the game's final run in the eighth on a hit batsman, a stolen base, an error, and a single.  Beresford and Hicks each had two hits for Beloit.  Brad Tippett lasted only three innings in taking the loss, giving up seven runs (six earned) on seven hits.  Winston Marquez pitched three innings of scoreless relief, striking out five.

The Snappers scored four in the seventh, but that was it, as they lost to the Peoria Chiefs 7-4 in fourteen innings in Beloit.  The game was scoreless through six.  In the top of the seventh, Peoria struck for three runs, getting a double, a walk, and a three-run homer by Brett Jackson.  In the bottom of the seventh, Beloit took its only lead of the game.  Singles by Jon Waltenbury, Dominic De La Osa, and Drew Thompson loaded the bases, and Aaron Hicks hit a grand slam to put the Snappers ahead 4-3.  The lead was short-lived, however, as an error and a double tied the score at four in the eighth.  Beloit loaded the bases on three walks in the bottom of the eighth, but did not score.  Each team loaded the bases in the twelfth, but neither could dent the plate.  In the thirteenth, the Snappers got the winning run to third with no one out to no avail.  Finally, in the fourteenth, an error, two wild pitches, and a triple scored what turned out to be the winning run for the Chiefs.  Hicks and Thompson each had three hits, with Hicks driving in four runs, and Jeff Lanning had two hits.  Beloit left thirteen runners on base and went 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position.  Bruce Pugh pitched five shutout innings, giving up five hits.  Daniel Osterbrock and Billy Bullock each pitched a scoreless inning of relief, Osterbrock's first relief appearance of the year, and Thomas Wright and Blake Martin each pitched two scoreless innings and each struck out three.  Kyle Carr took the loss.

Wednesday

The Snappers took a big lead early to defeat Peoria 7-1.  In the second, Daniel Rams singled, Michael Harrington walked, and Angel Morales hit a three-run homer to put Beloit ahead 3-0.  In the third, James Beresford and Aaron Hicks singled, Ozzie Lewis doubled, Jon Waltenbury was intentionally walked, and Harrington doubled to give the Snappers a 7-0 lead.  Meanwhile, Bobby Lanigan kept the Chiefs under control, giving up no hits through five innings.  Peoria's lone run came in the eighth on a single and a double.  Hicks, Lewis, and Morales each had two hits, with Morales and Harrington each driving in three runs.  Lanigan got the win, giving  up a run on four hits in eight innings.  Michael Allen pitched a scoreless ninth, striking out two.

Thursday

A two-run second was all Beloit could muster as the Snappers lost to the Chiefs 7-2.  A pair of doubles put Peoria on the board 1-0 in the first.  Beloit took its only lead of the game in the second, when singles by Nathan Hanson, Dominic De La Osa, James Beresford, and Aaron Hicks produced two runs to give the Snappers a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth, however, two singles and a Junior Lake home run put the Chiefs ahead 4-2, and they never trailed again.  A single and a home run by Jovan Rosa made the score 6-2 in the seventh, and a Ryan Flaherty homer in the ninth made it 7-2.  The last eleven Beloit batters were retired.  Hanson and Daniel Rams each had two hits.  Liam Hendriks took the loss, giving up four runs on eight hits in six innins and striking out seven.

Friday

The Snappers lost their second extra-inning game of the week, falling to the Cedar Rapids Kernels 8-7 in Cedar Rapids.  After three scoreless innings, each team tallied once in the fourth:  Jon Waltenbury doubled, went to third on a Daniel Rams single, and scored on Jeff Lanning's sacrifice fly for Beloit; the Kernels got back-to-back doubles.  In the fifth, the Snappers jumped to a four run lead when Drew Thompson tripled, Aaron Hicks and Angel Morales singled, and Rams hit a three-run homer to put Beloit ahead 5-1.  The Snappers made it 6-1 in the sixth when Thompson doubled and scored on a single by Nathan Hanson.  Cedar Rapids came back, however, getting a double, a single, two more doubles, and another single to score four times in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 6-5.  Each team scored in the eighth, with Beloit getting a walk to Morales and singles by Hanson and Waltenbury and the Kernels getting a walk, an error, and a single.  In the bottom of the ninth, a single, a sacrifice bunt, and a throwing error produced the tying run for Cedar Rapids and sent the game to extra innings.  In the bottom of the eleventh, the first two Kernels struck out, but a triple and a single ended the game.  The Snappers got seventeen hits, but stranded thirteen runners.  Lanning had four hits and Thompson three, with Thompson falling a home run short of a cycle.  Hicks, Hanson, Waltenbury, and Rams each had two hits, with Rams driving in three runs.  Brad Tippett pitched 5.1 innings, giving up five runs on six hits.  Winston Marquez struck out five in 1.2 innings, but still took the loss.

Saturday

Game 1

Cedar Rapids scored two in the fifth and three in the sixth to put away a 6-3 victory over Beloit.  Each team scored one in the first:  For the Snappers, Aaron Hicks walked, took third on an Angel Morales single, and scored on a double play; for the Kernels, an error, a bunt, and a single produced a run.  Dominic De La Osa homered in the third to put Beloit ahead 2-1.  Cedar Rapids moved in front in the fifth, scoring twice on a single, a fielder's choice that retired no one, and a double.  The Kernels took control in the sixth, getting a double, a walk, and a three-run homer by Jon Townsend to take a 6-2 advantage.  The Snappers got a run in the ninth when Jeff Lanning doubled and Drew Thompson singled, but they did not get the tying run up to bat.  Morales was the only Beloit batter with two hits.  Daniel Berlind took a complete-game loss, giving up six runs (five earned) on six hits.

Game 2

It was all Snappers as Beloit defeated Cedar Rapids 10-2.  In the third, two errors and a three-run homer by Angel Morales put the Snappers up 3-0.  The Kernels got a run back in the bottom of the third on a single, a stolen base, and a double, but Beloit went back ahead by three on a double by Daniel Rams and a single by Dominic De La Osa in the fourth.  The Snappers scored one more in the fifth when Morales doubled and Drew Thompson singled, but Cedar Rapids got it back again in the bottom of the fifth when Anel De Los Santos homered to make the score 5-2.  Beloit added another run in the sixth when Rams doubled, went to third on a Michael Harrington single, and scored on a double play.  The Snappers put it away in the seventh:  Morales was hit by a pitch and stole second, Aaron Hicks singled to put runners on first and third, a fielder's choice on which no one was retired scored Morales, singles by James Beresford and Rams brought in two more runs, and Harrington reached on an error to score Beresford.  The last six Kernels were retired, four of them on strikes.  Rams had three hits for Beloit.  Morales had two hits, scored three times, and drove in three runs.  Daniel Osterbrock got the win, giving up two runs on five hits in five innings and striking out eleven.  Kyle Carr pitched two scoreless innings, striking out four.

Sunday

Good things came in threes, as three three-run innings were enough for Beloit to take a 9-7 win over Cedar Rapids.  The Kernels scored in the third on a Roberto Lopez home run, and again in the fourth on a single, a wild pitch, a stolen base, and an error to take a 2-0 lead.  The Snappers came back with the first of their three-run innings, taking a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth on singles by Dominic De La Osa, Michael Harrington, and Angel Morales, a walk to Aaron Hicks, a strikeout/wild pitch by Ramon Santana, and a Daniel Rams hit by pitch.  Cedar Rapids tied it in the bottom of the fifth on a home run by Alexia Amarista, but the second three-run inning, in the sixth, put the Snappers ahead for good:  Nathan Hanson was hit by a pitch, De La Osa and Harrington singled to score Hanson, Angel Morales hit a sacrifice fly to score De La Osa, James Beresford singled, and a wild pitch scored Harrington.  Beloit added three runs in the ninth on a walk to Rams, singles by Hanson and De La Osa, and a three-run double by Harrington to make the score 9-3.  The Snappers needed all of those runs, because two walks, two doubles, and a single brought in four runs and brought the tying run to the plate with two out in the bottom of the ninth.  The next two batters struck out, however, and the game was over.  Harrington had four hits and drove in four runs, De La Osa had three hits and scored three times, and Hanson had two hits.  Bruce Pugh pitched 4.2 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits.  Blake Martin pitched 2.1 scoreless innings to get the win.  Billy Bullock was credited with a save.

Monday

The Snappers hung on to win their third game in a row, defeating Cedar Rapids 7-5.  Beloit scored two in the first when Angel Morales doubled and Ramon Santana homered.  The teams exchanged runs in the third, with the Snappers loading the bases on singles by Michael Harrington, Jeff Lanning, and Dominic De La Osa and scoring on a sacrifice fly by James Beresford, and the Kernels getting a home run from Adam Younger to make the score 3-1.  Beloit seemed to take control of the game with a four-run sixth:  Jon Waltenbury doubled, Nathan Hanson singled, and Lanning walked to load the bases, De La Osa was hit by a pitch to score one, Beresford singled to score two more, and Morales singled to score another.  Cedar Rapids came right back with a three-run bottom of the sixth, however, getting a single, a walk, and a three-run homer by Angel Castillo to make the score 7-4.  The Kernels added a run in the eighth on back-to-back two-out doubles, bringing the tying run to the plate, but that was as close as they would come.  Morales had four hits and Beresford drove in three runs.  Bobby Lanigan got the win, giving up four runs on five hits and striking out seven in 5.2 innings.  Billy Bullock pitched 1.1 perfect innings to get the save.

Statistical notes:  The Snappers are ninth in the league in runs, seventh in doubles, thirteenth in triples, and ninth in home runs.  They are fifth in walks and thirteenth in stolen bases.  The Snappers are eighth in OBP, tied for eighth in SLG, seventh in AVG, and eighth in OPS.

Snappers Snippets

Beloit is 14-22, tied for seventh with Wisconsin in the ML West, six games behind Cedar Rapids. For the season, the Snappers are 41-65.

Tuesday

Beloit fell behind early and never recovered, losing to the Great Lakes Loons 8-5 in Great Lakes.  The Loons scored three in the first on a walk, an error and a home run by Tony Delmonico, and scored two more in the second on a triple, a double, a single, and an error to go ahead 5-0 after two innings.  The Snappers got on the board in the fourth when Ramon Santana singled and Michael Harrington doubled, but Great Lakes took a 7-1 lead in the fifth on a single and two doubles.  Beloit tried to get back in the game in the sixth:  James Beresford singled, Aaron Hicks doubled, a wild pitch scored Beresford, Santana walked, Ozzie Lewis hit a sacrifice fly, and Daniel Rams singled to make the score 7-4.  A single, a stolen base, and another single put the Loons ahead 8-4 in the seventh.  The Snappers got a final run in the eighth when Santana walked, took second on a wild pitch, and scored on an Ozzie Lewis single.  Beloit made four errors in the game.  Beresford and Nathan Hanson each had two hits.  Brad Tippett took the loss, giving up seven runs (three earned) on eight hits in 4.2 innings.  Steven Blevins pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Wednesday

The Snappers again fell behind early, losing to Great Lakes 4-2.  A Dee Gordon homer put the Loons ahead 1-0 in the first inning.  A double, a walk, a double steal, and a single produced two more runs for Great Lakes in the third, giving the Loons a 3-0 lead.  Beloit got on the board in the fourth when Aaron Hicks tripled and Jon Waltenbury singled, but the Snappers missed a chance for more when they left runners on first and third.  Another chance went for naught in the fifth when Beloit loaded the bases with one out and did not dent the plate.  An Anthony Hatch homer put Great Lakes back up by three, 4-1, in the bottom of the fifth.  The Snappers scored one more, in the sixth, on singles by Tyler Ladendorf and Nathan Hanson, a walk to Jeff Lanning, and a ground out, but again left runners on first and third.  Beloit also put two on in the ninth to no avail.  The Snappers left eleven men on and were 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position.  Hicks and Angel Morales each had two hits.  Daniel Berlind took the loss, giving up four runs on five hits in five innings.  Kyle Carr pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, Bruce Pugh struck out the only batter he faced, and Billy Bullock pitched a scoreless inning.

Thursday

Beloit lost a slugfest, falling to the Loons 11-10 in twelve innings.  The Snappers scored one in the first when James Beresford singled, Ramon Santana doubled, and Jon Waltenbury singled.  Great Lakes came back with three in the bottom of the first on a single, a walk, a double, and another single.  A Nathan Hanson single and an Angel Morales double cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the second, but the Loons got the run back in the bottom of the second on two singles, a walk, and a wild pitch.  The scoring then came to a halt until the seventh, when Beloit took the lead on a Hanson double, singles by Morales and Drew Thompson, a Beresford bunt which moved runners to second and third, and a two-run single by Michael Harrington which put the Snappers ahead 5-4.  Beloit added a run in the eighth on a Tyler Ladendorf single and a Daniel Rams double to go ahead 6-4.  In the bottom of the eighth, however, Great Lakes came back to take an 8-4 lead on two walks, a single, a wild pitch, an intentional walk, and a double.  The Snappers scored four of their own in the top of the ninth to take a 10-8 lead:  Aaron Hicks and Jon Waltenbury walked, Tyler Ladendorf doubled to score Hicks, an intentional walk to Daniel Rams loaded the bases, a Hanson sacrifice fly scored Waltenbury to tie the game, a walk to Morales loaded the bases, and Thompson doubled in the two go-ahead runs.  In the bottom of the ninth, the first two Loons struck out, but one of them reached base on a passed ball.  A single and a double followed, scoring two runs to tie the game at ten.  Beloit pretty much gave the game away in the twelfth:  the first batter reached base on catcher's interference, and a one-out walk put runners on first and second.  A wild pitch moved the runners up to second and third, and after an intentional walk, a two-out single brought in the winning run.  Morales had four hits, Hanson three, and Beresford, Ladendorf, and Thompson each had two, with Thompson driving in three runs.  Daniel Osterbrock pitched five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits.  Steven Blevins was the only reliever to go unscored upon--he pitched two innings and struck out four.  Bruce Pugh took the loss.

Friday

The Snappers broke their losing streak by defeating the Ft. Wayne TinCaps 3-2 in Ft. Wayne.  Beloit got two runners on in the first and third innings, but finally got on the board in the fourth when back-to-back doubles by Daniel Rams and Nathan Hanson and a pair of productive outs gave the Snappers a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth, Drew Thompson homered to make the score 3-0.  The TinCaps did not get a runner to second base until the eighth and did not score until the ninth, when two walks, two singles, and a hit batsman brought in two runs and loaded the bases with two out.  Billy Bullock struck out the last batter to preserve the win.  Thompson, Rams, Hanson, and Ozzie Lewis each had two hits for Beloit.  Bobby Lanigan got the win, giving up two runs on six hits in 8.1 innings, striking out ten.  Bullock got the save.

Saturday

The TinCaps again rallied in the ninth, and this time it was enough to defeat Beloit 6-5.  The Snappers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning:  James Beresford walked, Angel Morales doubled, Aaron Hicks was hit by a pitch, and Ozzie Lewis homered to cap the four-run rally.  Ft. Wayne got on the scoreboard in the third with a double, a ground out, and a wild pitch.  The TinCaps cut the lead to 4-2 in the fourth when singles sandwiched a walk.  Each team scored once in the sixth:  for Beloit, Dominic De La Osa tripled and scored on Jeff Lanning's sacrifice fly; for Ft. Wayne, it was three walks and a ground out.  The Snappers missed a good chance in the seventh, putting runners on second and third with one out, but it looked like the 5-3 lead would hold up.  In the bottom of the ninth, however, a walk, an error and a double cut the lead to 5-4, an intentional walk loaded the bases, and a ground single up the middle brought in the tying and winning runs.  Beresford and Lewis each had two hits, with Lewis driving in three runs.  Liam Hendriks pitched 5.1 innings, giving up three runs on five hits and four walks, striking out six.  Steven Blevins pitched 1.2 scoreless innings.  Thomas Wright took the loss.

Sunday

This day it was the Snappers who came from behind as they defeated Ft. Wayne 3-2.  Each team scored once in the third:  Drew Thompson doubled and Aaron Hicks singled for Beloit; the TinCaps' run came on a hit batsman, a double, and a ground out.  Ft. Wayne took a 2-1 lead in the sixth on a walk and two singles, but Angel Morales homered in the seventh to tie the score.  In the top of the ninth, Dominic De La Osa walked, stole second, and scored on James Beresford's single to score what turned out to be the winning run.  The TinCaps were retired in order in the bottom of the ninth.  Beresford and Lewis again each had two hits.  Brad Tippett pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on four hits.  Blake Martin pitched 1.2 scoreless innings to get the win, and Steven Blevins struck out the only man he faced to get a save.

Monday

Beloit made it two in a row as they defeated the Peoria Chiefs 5-3 in Beloit.  The Snappers again scored first, getting a two-out, two-run rally in the first inning on an Ozzie Lewis single and a Daniel Rams homer.  Peoria came back in the third, getting three runs on a single, a walk, a double, and a single to take a 3-2 lead.  The Chiefs missed some good chances to score insurance runs, getting runners to second and third in the fourth and loading the bases in the fifth.  The failures proved costly, as Beloit rallied in the eighth.  Dominic De La Osa singled, James Beresford walked, and Drew Thompson tripled to give the Snappers a 4-3 lead.  Thompson scored on Lewis' sacrifice fly to give Beloit an insurance run.  Peoria went down in order in the ninth.  No Snapper had more than one of the team's six hits.  Daniel Berlind gave up three runs on five hits and five walks in five innings.  Michael Allen pitched three innings of scoreless relief to get the win.  Billy Bullock pitched a perfect ninth, striking out two, to get the save.

Statistical notes:  The Snappers are tied for ninth in the league in runs, eighth in doubles, thirteenth in triples, and ninth in home runs.  They are sixth in walks and thirteenth in stolen bases.  The Snappers are eighth in OBP, ninth in SLG, eighth in AVG, and tenth in OPS.

Snappers pitchers are eleventh in ERA, thirteenth in fewest hits allowed, tied for tenth in fewest home runs allowed, and eighth in fewest walks allowed.  They are sixth in strikeouts and thirteenth in WHIP.

Michael Harrington is tied for fourth in doubles (28).  Bobby Lanigan is tied for second in complete games (1).  Daniel Osterbrock is tied for second in complete games (1).  Daniel Berlind is tied for second in complete games (1).  Michael Allen is tied for second in complete games (1).  Brad Tippett is second in WHIP (1.02).

Notes:  Each team pitched a "Blevins" Thursday night, as Great Lakes started Bobby Blevins.  As far as I know, the two are not related...As you know, Tyler Ladendorf was traded to the Oakland organization in the Orlando Cabrera trade...Adan Severino has been activated from the disabled list...The Snappers' website reports that the team was actively trying to trade for Roy Halladay, offering rights to the Snappy Burger and intern Tyler Beinlich.  No word on why the offer fell through...An article in the Beloit Daily News suggested that the team's problem is "inconsistency".  The Snappers were last in the first half, are tied for last in the second half, and are last overall.  Seems pretty consistent.

Snappers Snippets

Beloit is 11-18, eighth (last) in the ML West, six games behind Cedar Rapids. For the season, the Snappers are 38-61.

Friday, July 17

A pair of four-run innings lifted Beloit over the Burlington Bees 9-4 in Burlington. The Bees took a 2-0 lead in the third on a single, a walk, a sacrifice bunt, a sacrifice fly, and a double. The Snappers came back with four in the fourth: Aaron Hicks singled, Ramon Santana tripled to score Hicks, Ozzie Lewis reached on an error to score Santana, Tyler Ladendorf singled, Michael Harrington hit a grounder on which two errors were made, scoring Santana, and Jeff Lanning singled to score Ladendorf, giving Beloit a 4-2 lead.  The Snappers struck for four more in the fifth:  James Beresford singled, Hicks walked, Lewis doubled to score Beresford, Ladendorf singled to score Hicks, Daniel Rams walked to load the bases, and Harrington singled to drive in Lewis and Ladendorf.  A triple and a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth scored one for Burlington, making the score 8-3, but the Bees missed a chance to get closer when they left the bases loaded, and they did not threaten again until the ninth.  The Snappers added a final run in the seventh when Jeff Lanning walked, Drew Thompson doubled, and Beresford reached on an error.  Burlington got runners to second and third in the ninth, but that was it.  Ladendorf had three hits and Santana and Thompson each contributed two.  Daniel Berlind got the win, giving up three runs on four hits in five innings.  Michael Allen and Steven Blevins each pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

Saturday, July 18

A late rally fell short as the Snappers lost to the Dayton Dragons 6-4 in Dayton.  The Dragons scored in the second on a double, a strikeout (runner advanced on throw to first), and a passed ball.  Aaron Hicks homered in the third to tie the score.  A double and a single put Dayton ahead 2-1 in the fifth, and a single, a walk, and two productive outs made it 3-1 after six.  The Dragons took a commanding lead in the seventh, scoring three times on a single, two walks, and a bases-clearing double to go ahead 6-1.  Beloit came back in the eighth:  Dominic De La Osa reached on an error, Drew Thompson singled, and Ramon Santana homered to make the score 6-4.  The Snappers got the tying run up to bat in both the eighth and the ninth, but that was as close as they could come.  Thompson and Santana each had two hits for Beloit.  Daniel Osterbrock took the loss, giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits in 6.1 innings.

Sunday, July 19

Beloit again waited too long to get any real offense going, and again lost to Dayton 6-4.  A Jon Waltenbury homer put the Snappers ahead 1-0 in the second, but the lead was short-lived.  The Dragons got six consecutive extra-base hits in the third inning, all off starter Bobby Lanigan:  a home run, two doubles, a triple, another double, and another home run made the score 6-1 Dayton after three.  Beloit got a pair of one-out singles in the fourth, and loaded the bases with one out in the seventh, but did not score again until the ninth, when Waltenbury doubled, James Beresford singled, Aaron Hicks singled to score Waltenbury, Ramon Santana walked to load the bases, and Ozzie Lewis singled in two runs.  Tyler Ladendorf walked to load the bases with two out, but Daniel Rams popped up to end the game.  Lanigan, who had been one of the better starting pitchers for the Snappers, took the loss, giving up six runs on eight hits in three innings.  Steven Blevins pitched three scoreless innings of relief and Matthew Williams pitched two.

Monday, July 20

Three two-run innings are better than one three-run inning, and the Snappers again lost to Dayton, 6-3.  The Dragons scored two in the first on two doubles and a single.  The Snappers did not get a hit until the fourth, but got some offense in the fifth as Ozzie Lewis doubled, Michael Harrington hit a two-run homer, Nathan Hanson doubled, and Drew Thompson singled, giving Beloit a 3-2 lead.  In the seventh, however, Josh Fellhauer followed a single with a two-run homer to put Dayton back ahead 4-3.  Two singles, a hit batsman, and another single gave the Dragons two more in the ninth.  The Snappers got the tying run up to bat with one out in the ninth, but a fly out and a strikeout ended the game.  Lewis had three hits, including a pair of doubles.  Liam Hendriks pitched six innings, giving up two runs on six hits and striking out eight.  Matthew Williams took the loss in relief.

Tuesday

Off Day

Wednesday

Beloit scored a run in the tenth to take a pitcher's duel from the Cedar Rapids Kernels 2-1 in Beloit.  The Snappers loaded the bases with two out in the first inning, but did not score until the fourth, when a Daniel Rams home run put them ahead 1-0.  It looked as if one run might be enough, as Beloit starter Brad Tippett gave up no hits through the first six innings and only two through the first eight.  In the ninth, however, a one-out walk and a two-out triple gave Cedar Rapids the tying run.  Billy Bullock came on to get the third out and send the game to extra innings.  In the tenth, Angel Morales led off with a bunt single and took second on a sacrifice by Drew Thompson.  That brought up James Beresford, who hit a slow grounder to short.  Morales started running with the crack of the bat and did not stop, coming all the way around from second on the ground out to score the winning run.  Morales was also the only Snapper with two hits.  Tippett pitched 8.2 innings, giving up a run on three hits.  Bullock pitched 1.1 perfect innings to get the win.

Thursday

The Snappers blew a 6-2 lead, but came from behind to defeat the Kernels 8-7.  There was no scoring until the fifth, when Beloit broke through with four runs:  Jon Waltenbury singled, Dominic De La Osa walked, Michael Harrington singled to load the bases, and Angel Morales hit a grand slam to give the Snappers a 4-0 lead.  Cedar Rapids started the sixth with a walk, a single, and a double to cut the lead to 4-2, but Beloit got the runs back in the bottom of the sixth when Ramon Santana doubled and Daniel Rams hit a two-run homer.  That was where things stood until the eighth, when things fell apart.  With one out, an error, a triple, and a single plated two runs to make the score 6-4.  Two passed balls and a walk put runners on first and third, and a two-run double tied the score.  An error and another passed ball gave the Kernels a 7-6 lead.  Daniel Rams had a nightmarish inning, being charged with an error and three passed balls.  He did throw out a runner trying to steal second in the inning.  Rams redeemed himself in the bottom of the eighth, however--following a Santana single, he doubled to bring in the tying run, and came around to score the winning run on a Jon Waltenbury single.  Cedar Rapids got runners to first and third with one out in the ninth, but Matthew Williams worked out of the jam to preserve the victory.  Rams had three hits and drove in three runs; Santana and Waltenbury each got two hits.  Daniel Berlind pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on seven hits.  Billy Bullock got the win in relief, with Williams pitching a scoreless ninth for the save.

Friday

Rained out

Saturday

The Lansing Lugnuts broke open a 2-2 tie with three in the sixth as they went on to defeat Beloit 7-3 in Beloit.  The Snappers scored two in the first on singles by Drew Thompson, Ramon Santana, and Daniel Rams and a double by Jon Waltenbury.  Lansing came right back with two in the second when two singles sandwiched a double.  The score remained tied at two until the sixth, when a home run, two singles, and a double plated three runs and put the Lugnuts ahead 5-2.  Lansing added two more in the eighth on an error, a walk, a single, another walk, and an infield out to go ahead 7-2.  Beloit managed a run in the ninth on a Jeff Lanning homer, but never threatened to get back into the game.  Thompson, Waltenbury, and Lanning each had two hits.  Daniel Osterbrock took the loss, giving up five runs on ten hits in six innings.  Michael Allen and Thomas Wright each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Sunday

Beloit got eight hits, but only one run as the Snappers lost to Lansing 3-1.  The Snappers got two hits in the first, but a double play ended the inning.  In the third, a double, an error, and a wild pitch put Lansing ahead 1-0.  Two Beloit singles in the fourth failed to produce a run, and the Lugnuts increased their lead in the fifth, getting two runs when two singles sandwiched a double.  The Snappers broke through for a run in the sixth when James Beresford singled, Drew Thompson singled to put runners on first and third, and the two runners pulled off a double steal of second and home.  A walk then put runners on first and second, but two strikeouts ended the inning, and Beloit never got the tying run on again.  Beresford and Ramon Santana each had two hits.  Bobby Lanigan took the loss, giving up three runs on seven hits in six innings.  Bruce Pugh pitched two scoreless innings of relief, striking out three, and Billy Bullock pitched one inning without being scored upon.

Monday

The Snappers scored first, but that was the extent of the good news as they lost to the Lugnuts 10-1.  The lone Beloit run came in the third inning, when Angel Morales singled and scored on Ramon Santana's double.  From there it was all Lansing.  The Lugnuts scored four in the fifth on a home run, three singles, two throwing errors, and a double.  They went ahead 6-1 in the sixth on a single, a walk, another single, and a double.  In the seventh, they scored three more times, getting a double and back-to-back home runs, all with two out.  They tacked on a final run in the eighth on a double, a single, and a ground out.  Santana was the lone bright spot for the Snapper offense, as he got three of the four Beloit hits.  Liam Hendriks took the loss, giving up six runs (five earned) on eleven hits in six innings.  Thomas Wright was the only one of three relievers to go unscored upon, pitching a scoreless ninth.

Statistical notes:  The Snappers are eighth in runs, tenth in doubles, thirteenth in triples, and tenth in home runs.  They are sixth in walks and tied for thirteenth in stolen bases.  They are ninth in OBP, eleventh in SLG, tied for eighth in AVG, and eleventh in OPS.

Snappers pitchers are thirteenth in ERA, thirteenth in fewest hits allowed, twelfth in fewest home runs allowed, and eighth in fewest walks allowed.  They are seventh in strikeouts and tied for thirteenth in WHIP.

Michael Harrington is fourth in the league in doubles (26).  Brad Tippett is third in ERA (2.31) and second in WHIP (1.00).  Bobby Lanigan is tied for second in complete games (1).  Daniel Osterbrock is tied for second in complete games (1) and first in most runs allowed (77).  Daniel Berlind is tied for second in complete games (1).  Michael Allen is tied for second in complete games (1).

Notes:  Matthew Williams was promoted from Beloit to Ft. Myers...Kyle Carr was promoted from Elizabethton to Beloit...The July 19 victory completed a sweep of Burlington, the Snappers' first sweep of the season...Daniel Rams has four homers and four doubles in forty-seven at-bats for Beloit.  He also has nine passed balls and three errors in six games behind the plate.

Snappers Snippets

Beloit is 8-12, tied for seventh in the ML West, six games behind Cedar Rapids. For the season, the Snappers are 35-55.

Beloit scored in the first inning and never trailed as the Snappers defeated the South Bend Silver Hawks 5-1 in Beloit. Aaron Hicks doubled and Ozzie Lewis singled to put Beloit on top 1-0 in the first. In the third, James Beresford singled, went to third on Hicks' single, and scored on a ground out to put the Snappers up 2-0. Beloit took control of the game in the fourth: Alexander Soto walked, Dominic De La Osa singled, and Stewart Munroe got a bunt single to load the bases with none out; Angel Morales reached on an error to score one; Beresford singled to score another; and Ramon Santana's sacrifice fly made the score 5-0. South Bend's only run came in the eighth, on a double, a sacrifice bunt, and a ground out. The Silver Hawks got eight hits and two walks, but stranded eight and went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. Beresford, Hicks, and De La Osa each had two hits for the Snappers. Brad Tippett got the win, pitching seven shutout innings and giving up only five hits. Billy Bullock pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Saturday

The Snappers overcame deficits of 7-1 and 8-3 to defeat the West Michigan Whitecaps 9-8 in Beloit.  There was no score until the fourth inning, when three singles, a wild pitch, and a double plated three for West Michigan.  The Snappers got one in the bottom of the fourth, but should have had more:  Aaron Hicks walked, Ramon Santana was hit by a pitch, and Ozzie Lewis singled to load the bases, but the next two batters struck out before a walk to Nathan Hanson forced in a run.  The Whitecaps got the run back in the fifth on a single, a hit batsman, a walk, and a wild pitch.  They seemingly took command in the sixth, scoring three times on a home run, a walk, an error, and two singles to go ahead 7-1.  Beloit tried to get back into the game in the seventh:  a walk to Dominic De La Osa, Angel Morales' triple, and an error produced two runs and made the score 7-3.  West Michigan got a run in the eighth on a double and two productive outs to take an 8-3 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth, however, the Snappers came roaring back.  Lewis singled, Daniel Rams doubled, and Hanson singled to bring in the first run.  De La Osa doubled in two to make the score 8-6.  James Beresford singled to bring Beloit within a run, Hicks walked, and Santana hit a two-run double to give the Snappers their first lead of the game.  The Whitecaps got a leadoff single in the ninth, but the runner was quickly erased on a double play.  Lewis had three hits and Hanson two.  Daniel Berlind pitched only 4.1 innings, giving up four runs on nine hits.  Michael Allen pitched two innings of relief to get his first win of the year.  Matthew Williams pitched the ninth to get a save.

Sunday

The big inning was on the other side this time, as West Michigan scored ten in the third to defeat Beloit 11-3.  The Snappers took the early lead, scoring two with two out in the first when Ramon Santana and Ozzie Lewis singled and Tyler Ladendorf doubled.  The Whitecaps got one in the second on a double and an error, but took control in the third.  West Michigan sent fourteen to the plate, with the first seven reaching base.  A hit batsman, a walk, five singles, and four doubles resulted in ten runs, with most of the damage coming off Daniel Osterbrock.  Beloit loaded the bases in the fourth with one out, but a double play ended the inning with no runs.  Drew Thompson tripled and scored on a Santana sacrifice fly to close out the scoring.  Thompson was the only Snapper with two hits.  Osterbrock took the loss, lasting 2.2 innings, giving up ten runs on nine hits and two walks.  Steven Blevins helped save the bullpen with four scoreless innings of relief.

Monday

West Michigan scored two in the first and never trailed as they defeated the Snappers 7-3.  A walk, a single, two passed balls, and a sacrifice fly gave the Whitecaps a first-inning 2-0 lead.  Beloit got on the board in the fifth on Michael Harrington's double and a James Beresford single, but West Michigan got it back with interest in the sixth, scoring two on a walk, two wild pitches, a double, and a single to go ahead 4-1.  The Whitecaps got a single, two doubles, a walk, and a sacrifice fly in the eighth to score three times and put the game away.  The Snappers got meaningless single runs in the eighth and ninth:  the eighth inning run came on a Beresford single and a Ramon Santana double, and the ninth inning tally came on a walk to Michael Harrington and a double by Angel Morales.  Beloit outhit West Michigan 10-6, but stranded seven runners and went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.  Beresford, Santana, and Harrington each had two hits.  Bruce Pugh took the loss, giving up two runs (one earned) on one hit and three walks in four innings.  He struck out six.  Billy Bullock pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Thursday

Brad Tippett pitched seven strong innings as the Snappers cruised to a 9-1 victory over Burlington.  A two-out rally in the third gave Beloit a 2-0 lead, as James Beresford singled, Aaron Hicks doubled him in, and Ramon Santana's RBI single drove in Hicks.  In the fourth, Tyler Ladendorf singled, Daniel Rams doubled, Jeff Lanning and Drew Thompson hit RBI singles, Beresford singled to load the bases, and Hicks' sacrifice fly made the score 5-0.  Rams homered in the fifth to put the Snappers up 6-0.  In the seventh, Michael Harrington singled, Ladendorf was hit by a pitch, and Lanning reached on an error to load the bases.  Thompson walked to force in a run, Beresford singled to drive in another, and Hicks walked to give Beloit a 9-0 lead.  Meanwhile, Tippett shutout the Bees for seven innings, giving up only four hits.  Burlington's lone run came in the eighth on a walk and a triple.  Beresford had four hits, Ladendorf, Rams, and Thompson had two each, and Hicks drove in three runs.  Tippett got the win with his seven scoreless innings.  Billy Bullock pitched a scoreless ninth.

Snappers Snippets

Beloit is 4-10, eighth (last) in the ML West, six games behind Cedar Rapids. For the season, Beloit is 31-53.

Friday

The Snappers could not hold a 4-0 lead, falling to the Cedar Rapids Kernels 5-4 in Beloit. Beloit took a 1-0 lead in the first when James Beresford reached on an error, took third on an Aaron Hicks double, and scored on a ground out. They scored three times in the third when Beresford singled, Hicks tripled, and Ramon Santana hit a home run to put the Snappers ahead 4-0. In the fifth, Cedar Rapids broke through for a run on a single, a wild pitch, a single, and another wild pitch. Two singles, a ground out, and another single made the score 4-3 after six. Meanwhile, Beloit was generating no more offense, never having two runners on base at the same time. The Kernels tied it in the eighth on a double, a sacrifice bunt, and an infield grounder, and scored what would prove to be the go-ahead run in the ninth on an error and two singles. The Snappers were retired in order in the bottom of the ninth. Hicks and Santana each had two hits, with Santana driving in three runs. Bobby Lanigan pitched 5.2 innings, giving up three runs on six hits. Blake Martin took the loss. Bruce Pugh pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Saturday

This time four runs was enough, as Beloit defeated the Peoria Chiefs 4-1 in Peoria.  All four Snapper runs came in the third inning.  Beloit loaded the bases when Stewart Munroe reached on an error and James Beresford and Aaron Hicks singled.  Ramon Santana singled to score Munroe and Beresford, and a throwing error put runners on second and third.  Michael Harrington hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Hicks, and Jon Waltenbury singled to score Santana.  The Chiefs put at least one runner on in seven of the nine innings, but four double plays helped keep them off the scoreboard other than in the sixth, when three singles produced a run.  Beresford and Hicks each had two hits.  Michael Tarsi got the win, giving up one run on eight hits in seven innings.  Michael Allen and Matthew Williams each pitched a scoreless inning of relief, with Williams getting the save.

Sunday

The Snappers made it two in a row, defeating Peoria 4-2.  The third inning was again key for Beloit.  After the Chiefs took a 1-0 lead in the first on three singles, the Snappers came back with three in the third.  Alexander Soto opened the inning with a single, and Drew Thompson doubled to put runners on second and third with no outs.  A ground out scored one, James Beresford singled to score another, and singles by Ramon Santana and Michael Harrington produced the third run.  The score stayed 3-1 until the sixth, when Peoria got a home run from Nelson Perez to cut the lead to 3-2.  Beloit got an insurance run in the ninth when Ozzie Lewis walked and scored on Soto's double.  Soto was the only Snapper with two hits.  Brad Tippett got the win, pitching seven innings and giving up two runs on six hits.  Steven Blevins pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, and Blake Martin struck out the only man he faced to get a save.

Monday

Beloit stayed close for a while, but Peoria eventually pulled away for a 7-2 victory.  The Snappers scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the first when Ramon Santana walked and scored on a Michael Harrington double.  The Chiefs tied it in the third on a single, a stolen base, and another single.  The combination of single, stolen base, single produced another Peoria run in the fifth to put the Chiefs ahead 2-1.  In the sixth, James Beresford singled, took second on an error, and scored on Santana's single to tie the score.  From there, however, it was all Peoria.  Two walks and a double put the Chiefs ahead 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth, and three singles and a triple led to three eighth-inning runs and a final 7-2 score.  Beloit had only six hits, with Harrington the only Snapper with two.  Daniel Berlind pitched 4.2 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits.  Thomas Wright gave up the other five runs, taking the loss.

Tuesday

Peoria took command early as they defeated the Snappers 7-3.  The Chiefs scored two in the first on a single, a double, an error, and a sacrifice fly.  They went ahead 3-0 in the second on a walk, a single, and a sacrifice fly.  A walk, two singles, and a wild pitch made the score 5-0 after three, and two singles, a ground out, and another single increased the margin to 7-0 after four.  Beloit finally got on the board in the fifth, loading the bases with one out on walks to Angel Morales and Drew Thompson and a Ramon Santana single, but the only run scored on a ground out.  The Snappers did nothing more until the ninth, when Morales singled, Dominic De La Osa walked, a wild pitch and a balk scored Morales and put De La Osa on third, and a Michael Harrington single scored De La Osa.  Beloit had nine hits in the game, but stranded twelve runners and went 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position.  All the hits were singles--Morales had three of them.  Curtis Leavitt took the loss, giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits and four walks in three innings.  Blake Martin pitched two scoreless innings, striking out five, and Matthew Williams pitched one scoreless inning.

Wednesday

Beloit again fell behind early and never recovered, losing to the South Bend Silver Hawks 6-3 in Beloit.  South Bend scored one in the first on three singles, but broke the game open with a five-run second.  Three singles, an error, and another single scored three runs before any were out.  A double play scored a fourth run, and an error and a double produced the fifth.  The Snappers had only two hits in the first five innings before breaking through with a three-run sixth.  Angel Morales singled, James Beresford walked, Aaron Hicks doubled to score Morales, and Ramon Santana singled to score Beresford and Hicks.  Michael Harrington then singled to put two runners on with nobody out, but Beloit could do nothing further in the inning or the game.  No Snapper had more than one hit, with Hicks getting the only extra-base blow.  Bobby Lanigan took the loss, giving up six runs (three earned) on eight hits in six innings.  Bruce Pugh pitched two scoreless innings and Steven Blevens pitched one.

Thursday

The Snappers blew a 4-1 lead and fell to South Bend 6-5.  The Silver Hawks scored once in the second on two singles and two productive outs.  Beloit took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second when, with two out, Drew Thompson walked and stole second, Angel Morales doubled, and James Beresford singled.  They went up 3-1 in the third on singles by Ramon Santana and Ozzie Lewis and a Jeff Lanning sacrifice fly.  In the fourth, Morales reached on an error, stole second, took third on an Aaron Hicks single, and scored on Ramon Santana's fly out.  In the sixth, however, South Bend scored five times to take a 6-4 lead.  An error put a runner on with one out, but the rest of the damage came with two out.  A double, the second error of the inning, another double, and two singles resulted in five runs for the Silver Hawks.  The Snappers got one back in the bottom of the sixth when Morales singled, Hicks walked, and Santana doubled.  An intentional walk loaded the bases with one out, but a double play ended the inning.  Beloit got only a seventh-inning single after that.  Beresford, Santana, and Morales each had two hits, with Morales scoring three times.  Liam Hendriks took the loss, giving up six runs (one earned) on eight hits in 5.2 innings.  Steven Blevins pitched 1.1 scoreless innings and Matthew Williams pitched two, with Williams striking out three.

Statistical notes:  The Snappers are eleventh in runs, tenth in doubles, tied for twelfth in triples, and tied for tenth in home runs.  They are fifth in walks and fourteenth (last) in stolen bases.  They are tied for eighth in OBP, thirteenth in SLG, tenth in AVG, and tenth in OPS.

Friday

The Snappers gave up a run in the bottom of the eighth to fall to the Clinton LumberKings 4-3 in Clinton. Denny Almonte hit a solo homer to put Clinton ahead 1-0 in the third. Beloit took a short-lived 2-1 lead in the fifth: Jeff Lanning singled, stole second, and scored on an Aaron Hicks single; Hicks then stole second and scored on an error. The LumberKings went back up 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth on a homer, a single, a sacrifice bunt, and another single. The Snappers tied it in the sixth when Jon Waltenbury walked and scored on Nathan Hanson's RBI double. Beloit missed a chance to take the lead in the top of the eighth, loading the bases with one out, and it cost them, as two walks and a single plated the go-ahead run for Clinton in the bottom of the eighth. The Snappers managed only a two-out single in the ninth. Hanson and James Beresford each had two hits. Daniel Osterbrock pitched six innings, giving up three runs on six hits and striking out seven. Bruce Pugh pitched the last two innings to take the loss.

Saturday

Rained out--made up as part of Sunday doubleheader

Sunday

Game 1

Beloit scored early and never looked back as they defeated Clinton in an err0r-filled game 6-2.  The Snappers got two in the top of the first:  they loaded the bases on a single by James Beresford and walks to Jon Waltenbury and Nathan Hanson, and a two-base error brought two runs home.  An error also produced a run in the second, as it followed a Drew Thompson double and an Aaron Hicks bunt single.  Beloit went ahead 5-0 in the third on solo homers by Nathan Hanson and Angel Morales.  The LumberKings got two runners on in the third, fourth, and fifth, but did not score until the sixth, when two singles and an error led to a run.  The Snappers got it back in the seventh when Waltenbury singled, took second on an error, and scored on Alexander Soto's single.  Clinton scored one in the seventh on a walk, a ground out, and, of course, an error.  The teams combined for seven errors in the game.  Beresford and Thompson each had two hits.  Bobby Lanigan got the win, giving up an unearned run on five hits in six innings.

Game 2

Six was again the magic number as the Snappers swept the doubleheader, defeating Clinton 6-4.  Errors were again key.  The LumberKings scored first, getting two runs in the third on three singles and an error.  Beloit bounced back to take a 4-2 lead in the top of the fourth--Michael Harrington, Nathan Hanson, and Jeff Lanning all singled to score one, a Dominic De La Osa single and a walk to Aaron Hicks scored another and loaded the bases, and a two-base error scored two more.  Clinton cut the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth on three singles and a walk, but left the bases loaded.  The Snappers got some insurance in the sixth when Lanning singled, De La Osa was hit by a pitch, an error moved runners to second and third, a sacrifice fly by Hicks scored one, and a Ramon Santana double scored another.  The LumberKings got a solo homer with two out in the seventh to close out the scoring.  Hanson had three hits, and Santana, Harrington, and Lanning each had two.  Michael Tarsi got the win, giving up ten hits, but only three runs (two earned) in five innings.  Matthew Williams pitched the final two innings to get a save.

Monday

Off Day

Tuesday

Beloit was held to only three hits and one run as they lost to the Cedar Rapids Kernels 4-1 in Beloit.  The Snappers scored first, getting a third-inning run when Drew Thompson doubled and Aaron Hicks singled.  Cedar Rapids loaded the bases in the fourth, but did not score until the fifth, when an error, two stolen bases, and a double produced a run to tie the score.  It stayed tied at one until the ninth, when a triple, a walk, another triple, and a squeeze bunt led to three runs and a 4-1 lead for the Kernels.  Beloit got the tying run up to bat with one out in the ninth, but a pair of strikeouts ended the game.  Thompson's double was the only extra-base hit.  Brad Tippett pitched six innings, giving up an unearned run on five hits.  Curtis Leavitt pitched two scoreless innings.  Steven Blevins pitched the ninth and took the loss.

Wednesday

The Snappers doubled their run total from yesterday, but so did Cedar Rapids as the Kernels defeated Beloit 8-2.  Cedar Rapids got five hits in a row (four singles and a double) in the third inning, putting the Kernels ahead 4-0.  The Snappers got one back in the bottom of the third when Jeff Lanning doubled, stole third, and scored on a throwing error.  Another error led to a Beloit run in the fifth, as an error and singles by Lanning and Thompson (Thompson's was a bunt), loaded the bases with one out and a ground out scored one to cut the lead to 4-2.  The Snappers did not score any more, however, and never came closer than that.  Two walks and two singles produced two Cedar Rapids runs in the seventh, and four singles produced two more Kernel runs in the ninth.  Lanning and Stewart Munroe each had two hits for Beloit.  Daniel Berlind took the loss, giving up four runs on five hits in only 3.2 innings.  Blake Martin pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, striking out four, and Michael Allen pitched a scoreless inning.

Thursday

Offense continued to be lacking, as Beloit had only two hits in losing to Cedar Rapids 5-1.  Three singles and a ground out put the Kernels ahead 1-0 in the third inning.  In the fifth, a walk, a double, and a single made the score 3-0.  The lone Snapper run came in the sixth, when Dominic De La Osa reached on an error and scored on James Beresford's double.  Cedar Rapids got the run back in the seventh with a leadoff home run, and tacked on one more in the ninth on a hit batsman, an error, and a sacrifice fly.  Beloit did get two on in both the eighth and ninth, with all the runners coming on walks, but could not get any more hits, much less score any more runs.  Daniel Osterbrock took the loss, giving up three runs on ten hits in five innings.

Statistical notes:  The Snappers are eleventh in runs, tenth in doubles, tied for twelfth in triples, and tenth in home runs.  They are fifth in walks and fourteenth (last) in stolen bases.  They are tied for eighth in OBP, twelfth in SLG, tied for ninth in AVG, and twelfth in OPS.

Beloit was 27-43 in the first half, eighth (last) in the ML West, fourteen games behind Kane County.  In the second half, they are 0-1, tied for fifth in the ML West, one game behind four teams.

Saturday

Game 1

Bobby Lanigan pitched six shutout innings as the Snappers blanked the Quad Cities River Bandits 6-0 in Beloit. Beloit scored in the second on an Ozzie Lewis homer. They broke the game open in the third, scoring four times. Jeff Lanning and Drew Thompson doubled, and a single by James Beresford and an Aaron Hicks double made the score 3-0. A walk to Ramon Santana loaded the bases, and an error and a ground out scored two more runs to put the Snappers up 5-0. Beloit added a run in the fifth when Santana singled, Jon Waltenbury walked, and Nathan Hanson and Dominic De La Osa singled. The sixth was the only inning in which Quad Cities got two runners on base. Hicks had two hits for the Snappers. Lanigan gave up only four hits to get the win. Steven Blevins pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Game 2

Six runs was again the winning total as Quad Cities defeated Beloit 6-1.  The Snappers' run came in the first inning, when Aaron Hicks walked, went to second on a ground out, and scored on a Michael Harrington double.  It all went downhill from there, however.  The River Bandits tied it with a run in the third on two errors and a single.  Quad Cities took the lead in the fourth when a single, a double, and a triple-and-error produced three runs for a 4-1 lead.  They added a single run in the fifth on a walk, a single, and a ground out and another in the sixth on a solo homer.  Beloit never threatened after the first, and their last sixteen men were retired.  The Snappers managed only two hits in the game.  Curtis Leavitt pitched only four innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on four hits.  Michael Allen pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Sunday

Big Mak already told you about this game.  It was the second Sunday in a row that Snappers pitchers gave up six runs in the ninth inning, as they lost to Quad Cities 6-4.  Beloit had scored a run in the fourth on singles by Aaron Hicks and Ramon Santana, a ground out, and a sacrifice fly.  The Snappers made it 2-0 in the sixth on an error, two ground outs, and a single by Jon Waltenbury.  It went to 4-0 when Ozzie Lewis singled, Dominic De La Osa walked, and Jeff Lanning hit a two-run triple.  Then, in the ninth, Big Mak left and the roof fell in.  A single, a walk, and a single loaded the bases with two out.  Two singles brought in two runs, and Joe Testa was replaced by Matthew Williams.  He promptly gave up a grand slam to Osvaldo Morales, and the game was gone.  A two-out walk brought the tying run to bat in the bottom of the ninth, but that was it.  Lanning had two hits.  Michael Tarsi pitched 6.2 shutout innings, giving up seven hits, but no runs.  Testa took the loss.

Monday

The Snappers took a lead in the third and made it hold up as they defeated Burlington 4-3.  Beloit again scored first, getting a run when Drew Thompson doubled and scored on two fly outs.  The Bees took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first on a single and a home run.  The Snappers scored three in the third when Nathan Hanson walked, Ramon Santana doubled, and Ozzie Lewis homered.  Burlington cut the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the third on a single, a stolen base, an error, and a wild pitch.  And that was it.  The Bees got a runner to third in the fourth and sixth, but could not get him the last ninety feet.  Six different Beloit players had one hit each.  Curtis Leavitt made a spot start, giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits in three innings.  Bruce Pugh and Steven Blevins each pitched two scoreless innings of relief, and each struck out four.  Pugh got the win and Blevins got the save.

Friday, June 12

Beloit scored seven in the third to defeat Burlington 10-5.  The Snappers took a 1-0 lead in the second when Ozzie Lewis singled, took third on a Nathan Hanson single, and scored on a ground out.  Beloit sent thirteen men to the plate in the third.  James Beresford started things with a single, and Ramon Santana drew a one-out walk.  An error loaded the bases, an Ozzie Lewis single scored one, and a Jon Waltenbury single scored two.  Nathan Hanson walked to re-load the bases.  Alexander Soto then singled to drive in one, and walks to Beresford, Drew Thompson, and Santana forced in three more to make the score 8-0.  The Bees got on the board in the fourth when two singles, an error, a hit batsman, and a passed ball led to two runs, and closed to 8-5 in the eighth when a single, a walk, an error, and another single resulted in three runs.  The Snappers put the game away in the ninth when Waltenbury walked, Hanson doubled, and Dominic De La Osa and Beresford each singled for two runs.  Beresford and Lewis each had three hits, and Hanson chipped in two.  Daniel Berlind gave up five runs (three earned ) on four hits to get the win.  Blake Martin pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

Saturday

The Snappers made it three in a row with a 4-1 victory over Burlington.  The Bees took a 1-0 lead in the second on consecutive doubles.  Beloit grabbed the lead in the sixth when Ramon Santana doubled, Michael Harrinton singled, Ozzie Lewis hit a sacrifice fly, and Juan Richardson singled.  They got an insurance run in the seventh on two errors, a bunt single by Dominic De La Osa, and a wild pitch, and added one more in the ninth when Angel Morales walked, went to third on two infield outs, and scored on a passed ball.  Beloit had no one with more than one hit.  Daniel Osterbrock pitched 6.1 innings, giving up a run on six hits to get the win.  Joe Testa went 2.2 innings, striking out four, for the save.

Sunday

A six-run ninth broke open a close game as Beloit fell to the Clinton LumberKings 9-2 in Beloit.  Clinton took a 1-0 lead in the second on two singles and a wild pitch, but the Snappers bounced back with two in the fourth:  Drew Thompson walked, Ramon Santana was hit by a pitch, Michael Harrington singled to load the bases, a ground out scored one, and a Nathan Hanson sacrifice fly gave Beloit a 2-1 lead.  The LumberKings tied it in the sixth with a single, an error, and a double, and took the lead in the eighth on two singles and a sacrifice fly.  They put the game away in the ninth on a hit batsman, a walk, two singles, a triple, and a home run.  Not only did the Snappers not challenge again, but their last seventeen batters were retired.  Beloit batters were limited to two singles.  Bobby Lanigan pitched only 3.1 innings, giving up a run on four hits and striking out six--I have not been able to learn why he was removed.  Steven Blevins took the loss.

Monday

The Snappers scored five in the second, but it wasn't enough as they lost to Clinton 10-5.  A homer, a single, and a double put the LumberKings up 2-0, but Beloit took a 5-2 lead when Ozzie Lewis and Juan Richardson singled, Dominic De La Osa drove them both in with a double, Angel Morales walked, an error loaded the bases, a ground out scored one, and Ramon Santana singled to score two more.  That was all the Snappers would get, however, and Clinton gradually took over, getting an unearned run in the fourth and taking the lead with four in the sixth on two singles, a triple, two walks, and a double.  They added three in the ninth without a hit, getting five walks, a wild pitch, a passed ball, and an error.  James Beresford, Santana, Lewis, and Richardson each had two hits.  Brad Tippett gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits in six innings, striking out six.  The loss went to Curtis Leavitt, who gave up four runs and did not retire a batter.

Tuesday

The bunt truly was the key as Beloit defeated Clinton 2-1.  The Snappers broke a scoreless tie in the third when Juan Richardson singled, took second on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a Drew Thompson double.  Beloit went up 2-0 in the sixth on bunt singles by James Beresford and Dominic De La Osa, an error, and a Ramon Santana sacrifice fly.  The LumberKings scored in the eighth on a hit batsman and a double.  Two walks loaded the bases with one out, but Clinton did not score again.  De La Osa had two hits.  Michael Tarsi threw seven shutout innings, giving up two hits, to get the win.  Joe Testa pitched 1.2 scoreless innings for the save.

Wednesday

It was the sacrifice fly that was key in this game, as Clinton led all the way in defeating the Snappers 4-1.  The LumberKings scored two in the first without a hit on two walks, a wild pitch, and two sacrifice flies.  A single and a double made it 3-0 after two.  Beloit got on the board in the third on singles by Dominic De La Osa, Drew Thomspon, and Ramon Santana.  The Snappers got two on in the sixth and two more in the seventh, but failed to score.  clinton added a run in the eighth on a walk, a single, and another sacrifice fly.  Santana and De La Osa each had two hits.  Daniel Berlind took the loss, giving up three runs on three hits in six innings, striking out seven.  Curtis Leavitt pitched a scoreless ninth.

Thursday

Beloit scored in the eighth to break a 2-2 tie and defeat the Quad Cities River Bandits 3-2 in Beloit.  The Snappers took a 1-0 lead in the second on a double by Michael Harrington and a single by Jon Waltenbury.  They added a run in the sixth on another Harrington double and a single by Ozzie Lewis.  Quad Cities got a two-out rally in the seventh, scoring two on a single, a triple, and another single.  In the eighth, however, Beloit got consecutive two-out singles by Ramon Santana, Harrington, and Lewis to take a 3-2 lead.  The River Bandits went down in order in the ninth.  Harrington had three hits and Lewis two.  Daniel Osterbrock pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on six hits.  He struck out seven.  Matthew Williams got the win with two perfect innings of relief and three strikeouts.

Snappers Snippets

Beloit is 20-37, eighth (last) in the ML West, 15.5 games behind Kane County.

Saturday, May 30

The Snappers scored two in the first, but no more as they lost to the Kane County Cougars 5-2 in Beloit. A three-run fifth gave Kane County a lead they never relinquished. The Snappers got only six hits in the game, with no one getting more than one. The only extra-base hit was Nathan Hanson's first inning double. Michael Allen pitched six innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on eight hits to take the loss. He also struck out six. Michael Tarsi pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Sunday, May 31

Kane County scored four in the top of the first and never trailed as they defeated Beloit 11-4.  The Snappers trailed 5-1 after two, but a solo homer by Ramon Santana in the fourth and another by Angel Morales in the fifth brought Beloit within two runs at 5-3.  There the score stayed until the eighth, when the Cougars put together a three-run rally to take a commanding lead.  They put the game away with three more in the ninth.  Michael Harrington hit a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth inning.  Jeff Lanning had two hits.  Daniel Berlind gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits in 5.1 innings of work to take the loss.  The only Snapper pitcher to be unscored upon was Matthew Williams, who pitched only two-thirds of an inning.

Monday, June 1

Off Day

Tuesday, June 2

Game suspended in the second inning and completed the next day.

Wednesday

Game 1

It appeared that Beloit might snap its losing streak, but the Peoria Chiefs came up with two runs in the eighth to take a 3-2 victory in Peoria.  The Snappers scored a single run in the second on three walks and a wild pitch, and another in the sixth on a solo homer by Michael Harrington to lead 2-1.  It looked like that might be enough, but in the bottom of the eighth, two singles, an error, and another single produced two runs and gave the Chiefs the victory.  Harrington had three of the five Beloit hits and was only a triple away from the cycle.  Starter Daniel Osterbrock pitched only 1.1 innings, giving up an unearned run on one hit--that was the point at which the game was suspended Tuesday.  Michael Tarsi pitched 4.2 innings of scoreless relief, giving up only three hits.  Danny Rondon took the loss.

Game 2

The Snappers again did not get enough offense, losing to Peoria 2-1.  The game was scoreless until the sixth, when a two-run single gave the Chiefs a 2-0 lead.  Beloit had only two hits until the seventh and last inning, when, with two out, Ozzie Lewis doubled and Ramon Santana singled to produce the lone Snapper run.  Santana reached second on an error and got to third on a wild pitch, but could not travel the last ninety feet.  Santana had two of the four Beloit hits.  Bobby Lanigan pitched well in defeat, getting a six-inning complete game and giving up two runs on four hits.

Thursday

The losing continued as Beloit once again managed only four hits in falling to Peoria 4-1.  The Snappers scored first, as a Ramon Santana triple led to a second inning run.  A home run by Rebel Ridling led to a 2-1 Chief lead after four, however, and two more in the sixth gave Peoria a 4-1 lead which would never be challenged.  Beloit's only other threat came in the seventh, when they got runners to second and third with two out.  No Snapper had more than one hit, and Santana's triple was the only extra-base blow.  Starter Bradley Tippett gave up four runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings to take the loss.  Blake Martin, Steven Blevins, and Bruce Pugh combined for 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Friday

The Snappers again managed to amass the grand total of one run, as they lost to the Chiefs 5-1.  Michael Brenly's two-run homer gave Peoria a 2-0 lead after two.  The Chiefs added two more in the fourth and one in the sixth.  Beloit at least threatened a couple of times, getting eight hits in the game, but their lone run came in the seventh when Alexander Soto was hit by a pitch and scored on a Drew Thompson triple.  James Beresford had two hits.  Michael Allen allowed five runs on nine hits in six innings to take the loss.  Curtis Leavitt and Matthew Williams each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Saturday

Rained out--made up as a doubleheader Sunday

Sunday

Game 1

Beloit got its run in the second inning this time, and again it was not enough, as they lost to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 2-1 in Wisconsin.  The run came on an RBI single by Drew Thompson, which followed walks to Jon Waltenbury and Angel Morales.  Wisconsin got the run back in the bottom of the second, and scored again in the fourth, giving the Timber Rattlers all the runs they would need.  The Snappers got the tying run into scoring position in the fifth and seventh, but could not drive it in--they were 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.  Thompson had half of the four Beloit hits.  Daniel Berlind pitched a complete game, giving up two runs on four hits to take the loss.

Game 2

The Snappers finally managed more than one run, and the pitching of Daniel Osterbrock made the scoring stand up as Beloit defeated Wisconsin 4-1.  The Timber Rattlers got on the board first, scoring in the first inning, but the Snappers bounced back with two in the second, with the big blow an RBI double by Alexander Soto.  Doubles by Ramon Santana, Michael Harrington, and Jon Waltenbury led to two more runs in the third.  That was all Osterbrock would need, as he got the complete game victory, giving up a run on four hits in his seven innings of work.  Ozzie Lewis had three hits, with James Beresford and Santana each contributing two.

Monday

A six-run (!) sixth gave Beloit a two-game winning streak, as they beat Wisconsin 7-5.  The Timber Rattlers had taken a 3-0 lead before the offensive explosion.  The Snappers had a walk, two doubles, and five singles in the inning, with two runs scoring on a double by Ramon Santana and two more on a single by Alexander Soto.  Wisconsin chipped away at the lead, scoring single runs in the sixth and seventh to make the score 6-5, but a Michael Harrington homer gave Beloit an insurance run in the ninth.  Ozzie Lewis again had three hits, and Harrington, Jon Waltenbury, and Angel Morales each had two.  Bobby Lanigan pitched 4.2 innings, giving up two runs on four hits and striking out six.  Michael Tarsi got the win in relief, despite giving up two runs in 1.1 innings.  Matthew Williams pitched 1.1 innings perfectly, and Joe Testa retired the last two batters to get a save.

Tuesday

The Snappers offense got back to normal, scoring one run in falling to Wisconsin 3-1.  A pair of doubles gave the Timber Rattlers a 2-0 lead in the fourth.  Beloit got its lone run in the fifth on a solo homer by Ozzie Lewis.  The Snappers threatened to take the lead in the sixth, getting runners to second and third with one out, but Ramon Santana and Michael Harrington struck out to end the threat.  They got two on in the seventh and again in the ninth, but failed to convert the opportunities into runs.  A run in the seventh gave Wisconsin the insurance it needed to put the game away.  Beloit had eleven hits, but could not take advantage of them, partly because it lost four runners on the bases, three of them caught stealing.  James Beresford and Jon Waltenbury each had three hits, and Juan Richardson had two.  Bradley Tippett pitched well in defeat, giving up two runs on five hits in six innings while striking out nine.  Steven Blevins pitched a perfect inning of relief with two strikeouts.

Statistical notes:  The Snappers are tied for eighth in the league in runs, ninth in doubles, tied for ninth in triples, and ninth in home runs.  They are tied for third in walks and are fourteenth (last) in stolen bases.  They are seventh in OBP, ninth in SLG, eighth in AVG, and eighth in OPS.

Snappers pitchers are fourteenth in ERA, tied for thirteenth in fewest hits allowed, twelfth in fewest home runs allowed, and eighth in fewest walks allowed.  They are seventh in strikeouts and tied for thirteenth in WHIP.

Michael Harrington is third in the league in doubles.  Ramon Santana is third in OBP, third in SLG, tied for second in AVG, and second in OPS.  Brad Tippett is tied for fifth in wins.  Bobby Lanigan is second in innings.  Daniel Osterbrock has given up more hits than any pitcher in the league.

Notes:  Joe Testa is the Snappers' lone representative to the Midwest League all-star game.

Snappers Snippets

Beloit is 18-29, eighth (last) in the ML West, 10.5 games behind Kane County.

Tuesday

In a game cut to eight innings by rain, the Snappers fell to the South Bend Silver Hawks 4-1 in South Bend.  The Silver Hawks opened the scoring in the fourth, getting two runs on a double, a walk, a single-and-error, and a sacrifice fly.  They made it 3-0 in the fifth on a triple and a wild pitch.  Beloit got on the board in the sixth on consecutive two-out singles by Nathan Hanson, Jon Waltenbury, and Ozzie Lewis.  South Bend scored in the seventh on a single, a double, and a sacrifice fly.  The sixth was the only inning in which the Snappers had more than one runner on base.  James Beresford had two hits for Beliot.  Daniel Berlind pitched five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits, striking out seven.  Wade Miley pitched six innings for South Bend to get the win, with T. J. Hose going two scoreless innings to get a save.

Wednesday

It took fifteen innings, but Beloit fell to South Bend 3-2.  Each team scored in the second:  the Snappers got a run on an error and a Michael Harrington triple, and the Silver Hawks scored on two singles and a ground out.  Beloit got two on in the fourth, and each team got a double in the fifth, but there was no more scoring until the eighth, when South Bend's Chris Davis homered to put the Silver Hawks up 2-1.  Jon Waltenbury opened the Snappers ninth with a single, and was sacrificed to second.  Harrington then singled, but the runner was out trying to score, leaving the score 2-1 South Bend.  Harrington advanced to second on the throw, however, and scored on a Juan Richardson single to tie the game.  Beloit got two-out doubles in the tenth and eleventh, and the Silver Hawks got two on in the thirteenth and fourteenth, but there was no scoring until the fifteenth.  In the top of the inning, an error and a James Beresford single put two on with two out, but the Snappers could not bring them home.  In the bottom of the inning, a walk, a hit batsman, and a two-out double ended the game.  Harrington had three hits on the game, falling a home run short of a cycle.  Beresford and Richardson each had two hits.  Daniel Osterbrock pitched well, giving up two runs on eight hits in eight innings.  Joe Testa pitched three scoreless innings of relief and Matthew Williams two.  Michael Tarsi took the loss.  Daniel Vasquez pitched three innings of scoreless relief, striking out four, to get the win for South Bend.

Thursday

The pitching of Bobby Lanigan got the Snappers back on the winning track as they defeated South Bend 4-2.  Beloit tallied twice in ths second on singles by Jon Waltenbury and Angel Morales and a Michael Harrington double.  They came up with one more in the fourth when Ozzie Lewis singled and Morales doubled to go ahead 3-0, and scored a final run in the ninth on doubles by Waltenbury and Jeff Lanning.  South Bend threatened in the final frame, when a walk, a single, a double, and two more walks made the score 4-2 with the bases loaded.  Two were out, however, and Joe Testa strucke out Alberto Diaz to end the game.  Waltenbury had three hits and scored three times.  Morales and Lanning each had two hits.  Lanigan pitched seven strong innings, giving up only two hits, to get the win.  Testa was credited with a save.

Friday

One of the neat things about baseball is how the worst team will sometimes blow out the best team.  Beloit scored early and often in drubbing the Kane County Cougars 15-2 in Beloit.  The Snappers scored three without a hit in the first inning, as James Beresford, Nathan Hanson, and Jon Waltenbury each walked, Ozzie Lewis hit a sacrifice fly, Ramon Santana reached on an error to bring in a run, and Michael Harrington had an RBI grounder.  The base on balls was also important in a seven-run second.  Alexander Soto walked, Juan Richardson singled, and Beresford walked to lead the bases.  Hanson doubled to bring in two, and Waltenbury walked to re-load the bases.  Ozzie Lewis then hit a grand slam to make the score 9-0.  The Snappers weren't done however, as Harrington then singled, Soto walked, and Richardson singled to produce the seventh run of the inning and the tenth of the game.  Kane County scored once in the third, but Beloit got two more in the fourth when Morales singled and Soto homered.  The score went to 15-1 in the sixth when Richardson doubled, Beresford singled, Waltenbury and Lewis hit RBI singles, and Harrington doubled in the last run.  The Cougars got one in the seventh, but that was all.  Beresford, Lewis, and Richardson each had three hits, with Beresford scoring three times.  Santana, Harrington, and Morales each had two hits.  Bradley Tippett pitched six innings, giving up only one run on five hits and striking out seven to get the win.  Blake Martin and Danny Rondon each pitched a scoreless inning.

Statistical notes:  The Snappers are tied for fifth in runs, ninth in doubles, tied for eighth in triples, and ninth in home runs.  They are third in walks and thirteenth in total bases.  The Snappers are tied for fifth in OBP, eighth in SLG, fifth in AVG, and seventh in OPS.

Snappers pitchers are fourteenth (last) in ERA, fourteenth in fewest hits allowed, twelfth in fewest home runs allowed, and tied for tenth in fewest walks allowed.  They are seventh in strikeouts and tied for thirteenth in WHIP.

Michael Harrington is tied for second in the league in doubles.  Bradley Tippett is tied for third in wins and is fifth in WHIP.  Bobby Lanigan is tied for third in wins and third in innings pitched.  Daniel Osterbrock has given up more hits, more runs, and more home runs than any other pitcher in the league.  Shooter Hunt finally dropped to second in most walks allowed, after not pitching for a couple of weeks.

Snappers Snippets

Beloit is 16-27, in eighth (last) place in the ML West, 10.5 games behind Kane County

Tuesday

The Snappers fell behind early and never got back into the game, losing to the Peoria Chiefs 9-1 in Beloit.  Peoria hit a pair of solo homers in the first to go up 2-0.  In the second, Michael Harrington doubled, went to third on a Jeff Lanning single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nicholas Romero to cut the lead to 2-1.  It was all downhill after that, however.  Two more Chief homers made it 4-1 after three.  Three singles and a double produced three Peoria runs in the sixth, and a single, an error, and another single led to two more in the ninth.  Beloit had only three hits, none after the fourth inning.  Bradley Tippett pitched five innings, giving up four runs on eight hits.  Danny Rondon was the only Snapper reliever to go unscored upon, as he pitched a scoreless eighth.

Wednesday

Beloit scored early and late in defeating the Ft. Wayne TinCaps 14-9.  The Snappers put together a two-out, four-run rally in the first on singles by Jon Waltenbury and Ozzie Lewis, an error, and a three-run homer by Ramon Santana.  They had a two-out, three-run rally in the third on a walk to Santana, a double by Michael Harrington, and a two-run homer by Alexander Soto.  Ft. Wayne did not quit, however.  A three-run homer made it 7-3 after four, a pair of runs in the sixth made it 7-5, and two more in the seventh tied the score at seven.  The Snappers got it back in gear in the seventh.  Lewis opened the inning with a walk, and Angel Morales singled.  Santana doubled in one run, and Harrington singled in two.  An error and a James Beresford single made it 11-7 after seven.  The TinCaps got two of the runs back in the eighth on a two-run homer, but singles by Santana and Harrington and a three-run homer by Soto put the game away.  Santana, Harrington, and Soto all had three hits, with Soto driving in five runs, Santana four, and Harrington three.  Santana and Harrington each scored three times.  Beresford, Waltenbury, and Morales each had two hits.  Michael Allen pitched 5.2 innings, giving up five runs on five hits, striking out seven.  Danny Rondon got the win in relief.  Joe Testa pitched a scoreless ninth.

Thursday

A late rally fell short as the Snappers lost to the TinCaps 7-5.  Ft. Wayne struck first in the second, getting three runs on two singles, a walk, and a triple.  There was no more scoring until the seventh, when a pair of singles and a wild pitch produced another TinCap run.  A two-run homer in the eighth put Ft. Wayne up 6-0.  That's when Beloit finally got it going.  Singles by Drew Thompson, James Beresford, Jon Waltenbury, and Angel Morales led to two runs.  Ramon Santana doubled to drive in two more, and Santana scored on an Alexander Soto single to make the score 6-5.  The Snappers would get no closer, however, and the TinCaps got an insurance run in the top of the ninth before striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth.  Beresford, Waltenbury, Santana, and Thompson each had two hits.  Daniel Berlind pitched five innings, giving up three runs on six hits.  No Beloit reliever went unscored upon.

Friday

A seven-run third boosted Ft. Wayne over Beloit 13-7.  The TinCaps were already up 1-0 on a solo homer in the second when they got the touchdown on two errors, two walks, a hit batsman, and four singles.  The Snappers got on the board in the bottom of the third when James Beresford singled and Ozzie Lewis doubled, but Ft. Wayne scored single runs in the fourth and fifth to go up 10-1.  Beloit battled back in the bottom of the fifth when Lewis and Angel Morales singled, Michael Harrington reached on an error, and Nathan Hanson hit a three-run homer.  The Snappers got two more in the seventh when Lewis walked, Harrington doubled, and Hanson singled to make it 10-7, but the TinCaps got a two-run homer in the eighth and scored again in the ninth to close things out.  Hanson had three hits and drove in four runs.  Dominic De La Osa, Beresford, Lewis, and Harrington each had two hits.  Daniel Osterbrock gave up eight runs (one earned) on five hits in only 2.1 innings.  Steven Blevins pitched two scoreless innings of relief, although he allowed three hits and a walk.

Saturday

Snapper pitchers were battered again as Beloit lost to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 9-1 in Beloit.  Wisconsin scored in the first on a double and single.  The Snappers tied it in the second on back-to-back doubles by Ramon Santana and Angel Morales.  The Timber Rattlers took a commanding 5-1 lead in the third on five singles and two walks.  They stretched it to 7-1 in the fifth and 9-1 in the seventh.  Beloit's only other threats were in the third and seventh, when they got three walks and two walks, respectively, but they could not get a hit to get back into the game.  Santana had two hits.  Bobby Lanigan lasted only 4.2 innings, giving up seven runs on ten hits.  Curtis Leavitt pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

Sunday

It was Backwards Day in Beloit, as reliever Joe Testa started and pitched three innings and starter Bradley Tippett relieved for the final six.  But it worked, as both pitched very well and the Snappers blanked Wisconsin 4-0.  Each team got only one runner as far as second base in the first six innings.  In the seventh, the Timber Rattlers' Jose Duran walked, stole second, and advanced to third on a fly out, but was out trying to steal home.  In the eighth, Alexander Soto and Drew Thompson walked and James Beresford singled to drive in the first run of the game.  A walk to Dominic De La Osa loaded the bases, and Ramon Santana singled to drive in two more.  A sacrifice fly by Jon Waltenbury made it a four-run inning, and a one-two-three ninth ended the game.  Beresford and Santana each had two hits.  Testa gave up only one hit and struck out four in his three innings.  Tippett gave up only one hit in six innings, striking out five to get the win.

Monday

Wisconsin led all the way as they defeated the Snappers 7-4.  Two walks and three singles led to two first inning runs for the Timber Rattlers.  An error, a single, a walk, and a double plated two more in the fifth to put Wisconsin up 4-0.  Beloit had only two hits in the first four innings, both in the first, but broke through with three runs in the fifth on a walk to Drew Thompson and singles by James Beresford, Nathan Hanson, Ozzie Lewis, and Jon Waltenbury.  They left the bases loaded, however, and would not be that close again.  The Timber Rattlers came right back with two in the sixth on a pair of walks, a pair of singles, and a wild pitch, and scored one more in the seventh on three singles to go ahead 7-3.  The Snappers got one in the ninth on singles by Lewis, Angel Morales, and Waltenbury.  They had the tying run at bat with none out, but the next three batters were retired, two by strikeout.  Hanson and Lewis each had three hits and Beresford and Waltenbury had two apiece.  Michael Allen went five innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on six hits and five walks.  Matthew Williams pitched two scoreless innings.

Statistical notes:  The Snappers are tied for sixth in runs, ninth in doubles, tied for eighth in triples, and tied for eighth in home runs.  They are third in walks and twelfth in stolen bases.  They are sixth in OBP, ninth in SLG, seventh in AVG, and eighth in OPS.

Snappers pitchers are last (fourteenth) in ERA by more than half a run, last in fewest hits allowed, twelfth in fewest home runs allowed, and eleventh in fewest walks allowed.  They are ninth in strikeouts and last in WHIP.

Michael Harrington is tied for fifth in the league in doubles.  Daniel Osterbrock is tied for most hits allowed and has allowed the most home runs in the league.  Shooter Hunt remains tied for most walks, despite having pitched only 17.2 innings.

Notes:  Nicholas Romero was promoted to Ft. Myers...Reliever Henry Arias has been released...Shooter Hunt was placed on the 7-day DL with a strained groin muscle...Beloit has added three pitchers from the disabled list:  Curtis Leavitt, Blake Martin, and Michael Tarsi...Adan Severino has been placed on the disabled list with bone spurs in his right elbow.  He will be replaced by Juan Richardson, who was sent down from Ft. Myers.
