Players
Major league baseball has an active 25 man roster and a 40 man roster. Only players on the 25 man roster are allowed to play in regular season games. The 40 man roster includes all of the players on the 25 man roster, players on the 15 day disabled list, and anyone else that the club chooses to place on the 40 man roster. There are a variety of rules regarding the 40 man roster.
Post Season
From 1903 to 1968, only the team with the best record in the American League qualified for post season play. The winner of the American League is said to have won the American League pennant and plays the National League Pennant Winner in the World Series. The Twins have won the American League Pennant three times, in 1965, 1987, and 1991. In 1987 and 1991, the Twins won the World Series. In the 1965 World Series, the Twins lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games. In 1987, the Twins defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games and in the 1991 World Series, the Twins defeated the Atlanta Braves in seven games. In each of these series, the Twins had the home field advantage. They have never won a World Series game in a stadium outside of Minnesota.
From 1969 to 1993, the American League was divided into two divisions, the American League East and the American League West. The Twins were a member of the American League West from 1969-93 and won the Division Title in 1969, 1970, 1987, and 1991. The Twins lost to the American League East Champion Baltimore Orioles after each of the 1969 and 1970 seasons. The Twins defeated the Detroit Tigers in 1987 and the Toronto Blue Jays in 1991 to win the pennant.
Since 1994, the American League has been divided into three divisions, the American League East,
American League West, and the American League Central. Each of the division winners and a wild card team (the team with the best record in the league that did not win one of the three divisions) play in a tournament The Twins have been a member of the American League Central since 1994. The Twins won the American League Central in 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2006. The Twins have never participated in the post season as a wild card winner.
Stadiums
The Twins played their home games at Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington, MN from 1961-1981. Since 1982, the Twins have played their home games at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis. Beginning with the 2010 season, the Twins will play their home games at a yet unnamed stadium in Minneapolis that is currently under construction. The Twins have shared both the Metrodome and Metropolitan Stadium with the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League. The new stadium will be an outdoor, baseball only stadium.
